KashmirProtests – Bradford Demonstration Highlights Concerns Over PoJK Unrest
KashmirProtests – Political activists and members of the Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) community assembled outside the Pakistani Consulate in Bradford, United Kingdom, to voice concern over recent events in the region. The gathering focused on allegations of excessive force used against demonstrators in Rawalakot and Kotli, with participants demanding greater accountability and international attention.

Demonstrators Raise Concerns Over Reported Crackdown
During the protest, attendees accused security agencies of responding harshly to public demonstrations that they described as largely peaceful. Organisers claimed that several people lost their lives while many others sustained injuries during the unrest. Protesters called for an impartial investigation into the incidents and urged global human rights bodies to closely monitor developments in the region.
Speakers at the event emphasized the need for justice for affected families and appealed to international institutions to examine reports concerning the treatment of civilians. Participants also highlighted concerns about civil liberties and public safety amid the ongoing tensions.
British MP Criticises Use of Force
Adding political weight to the demonstration, British Conservative MP Bob Blackman strongly criticised the actions of Pakistani security authorities. Speaking to ANI, Blackman expressed concern over reports that live ammunition had been used during the protests.
The lawmaker stated that while official reports mentioned nine fatalities, accounts from local sources suggested that the death toll could be considerably higher, with dozens reportedly killed and hundreds injured. He described the situation as deeply troubling and called for transparency regarding the reported casualties.
Humanitarian and Economic Issues Highlighted
Blackman also drew attention to broader humanitarian and economic challenges faced by residents of the region. According to him, many people are primarily concerned with securing basic necessities and ensuring that their fundamental rights are protected.
He argued that the reported incidents have intensified existing grievances and increased concerns about the welfare of local communities. The MP stressed the importance of safeguarding civilian rights and ensuring that those affected receive appropriate support.
Issue Gains Attention in the United Kingdom
The controversy has also attracted attention within British political circles. Blackman noted that some individuals reportedly affected by the violence are British nationals, making the matter a direct concern for the United Kingdom.
He revealed that he had requested the British Foreign Secretary provide an update to the House of Commons regarding the government’s response. According to Blackman, diplomatic engagement with Pakistani officials should address the allegations and seek clarity on the reported events.
Cross-Party Support for Diplomatic Action
The MP further stated that around 30 members of the British Parliament had written to the Foreign Secretary expressing concern over the situation. He suggested that the letter reflected growing unease among lawmakers regarding developments in PoJK.
According to Blackman, support for diplomatic engagement has come from politicians with differing viewpoints, indicating broader interest in the issue across the political spectrum.
Remarks on Kashmir and Regional Security
Addressing the wider Kashmir dispute, Blackman reiterated his long-standing position regarding the region’s status and referenced historical developments dating back to 1947. He argued in favour of implementing relevant international resolutions and called for measures aimed at reducing tensions.
The British lawmaker also warned that continued confrontations between security forces and protesters could further destabilise the situation. He stressed the importance of preventing escalation and ensuring the protection of civilians.
Praise for India’s Leadership and Strategic Role
During the interview, Blackman also praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting India’s economic growth and expanding global influence. He credited the Indian government with strengthening the country’s international standing and advancing diplomatic engagement with various partners.
The MP additionally spoke about regional security challenges, including concerns related to cooperation between China and Pakistan. He suggested that closer collaboration with India in international security frameworks could contribute to stability and help safeguard democratic interests across the region.
