IndiaAustralia – Modi Invites Australian Firms to Join India’s Expanding Economy
IndiaAustralia – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on Australian companies to explore deeper commercial ties with India, highlighting opportunities in manufacturing, clean energy, artificial intelligence, digital services and infrastructure. The appeal came during the India-Australia CEO Forum in Melbourne on Thursday, where Modi appeared alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Economic Partnership Takes Centre Stage
The two leaders met prominent executives and business representatives from both countries during the forum, which is aimed at strengthening trade and investment links. Albanese welcomed Modi at the event before the leaders addressed the gathering of corporate leaders.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Modi spoke about India’s economic momentum, policy reforms and a growing environment for innovation. He said Australian businesses could find significant opportunities by working with Indian partners in sectors that are expected to shape future growth.
Focus on Technology, Energy and Critical Minerals
Modi identified several areas where the two countries could expand cooperation. These included advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, critical minerals, fintech, artificial intelligence, transport infrastructure and the wider digital economy.
India’s large market and Australia’s expertise in resources, technology and services could create mutually beneficial business partnerships, the ministry said. The Prime Minister’s remarks reflected the broader effort by both governments to build more resilient supply chains and encourage private investment across strategic sectors.
The growing importance of critical minerals was also underlined during the discussions. Australia is a major supplier of several minerals needed for clean energy technologies, while India is seeking to expand its manufacturing capacity for electric vehicles, batteries and renewable energy equipment.
CEO Forum Supports Annual Business Dialogue
The Australia-India CEO Forum has been operating since 2012. It was relaunched in 2023 by Modi and Albanese as part of efforts to give fresh momentum to commercial engagement between the two nations.
The forum meets annually and provides recommendations to both governments on measures that could improve economic cooperation. Its members also participate in meetings and initiatives throughout the year to promote trade, investment and industry-level partnerships.
Officials expect the forum to support the implementation of existing agreements and identify new areas where businesses can work together. The platform brings together leaders from major companies in both countries, allowing them to share views on market access, investment conditions and future industry priorities.
Business Reception Highlights Shared Confidence
Modi also addressed the Economic Roadmap Business Reception held alongside the CEO Forum. Speaking to business leaders from India and Australia, he said their attendance demonstrated the confidence and ambition shared by both countries.
He described India and Australia as natural and trusted partners at a time when global markets are facing uncertainty. Modi urged companies to build stronger links in areas ranging from clean energy and infrastructure to education, digital innovation and artificial intelligence.
The engagement in Melbourne forms part of wider efforts to expand India-Australia relations beyond traditional trade. With both countries seeking stronger economic security and diversified partnerships, business cooperation is likely to remain an important part of their bilateral agenda.
