Around 11 p.m. on Thursday, the protesters assembled outside the mission’s headquarters in the port city of Khulshi. When police heard about the protest, they hurried to the location.

Just before to 11 p.m., the demonstrations started. Police told BD News that another set of demonstrators concurrently took up positions at Gate No. 2.

Along with anti-Awami League and anti-Indian shouts, many gathered in front of the Indian Assistant High Commission yelled protests over Hadi’s murder. Later, police officers stepped in and forced the demonstrators from the property.

Those who had set up outside the high commission have been taken down, Khulshi Police Chief Shahin Alam said BD News. According to BD News, he also said that police officers were still there to keep the peace.

Hadi gained notoriety during the July Uprising and the campaign to outlaw the Awami League. He has declared his intention to run as an independent from the Dhaka-8 seat in the parliamentary election.

While campaigning in Bijoynagar on Friday, he was assaulted. Hadi was traveling in a rickshaw when he was shot by an attacker mounted on a speeding motorbike. His head was hit by the bullet.

After suffering severe injuries, Hadi was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for surgery. Later that evening, he was moved to the capital’s Evercare Hospital. He was transported by air ambulance to Singapore on Monday afternoon in order to get specialized medical care.

According to BD News, Hadi’s death was verified by Singapore General Hospital in a video message posted Thursday night by neurosurgeon Abdul Ahad, who participated in Hadi’s operation in Dhaka.

Hadi was “martyred” in the alleged “struggle against Indian hegemony,” according to a statement on Inqilab Moncho’s Facebook page, as reported by BD News.
