Karuppu – Film Producers Warn Against Illegal Distribution and Piracy
Karuppu – The producers of actor Suriya’s upcoming Tamil action film Karuppu have issued a public warning following reports of unauthorized screenings in parts of North India. The production house alleged that illegal activation of digital screening keys led to certain theatrical shows being conducted without official approval, resulting in copyrighted footage from the film appearing online.
Unauthorized Screenings Trigger Concern
Dream Warrior Pictures, the banner behind Karuppu, stated that the issue came to light after select theatres reportedly screened the Tamil version of the film through improperly activated KDMs, also known as Key Delivery Messages. These digital keys are required to unlock and play films in cinemas.
According to the makers, the screenings were allegedly enabled without the final consent of the production company. As a result, visuals, scenes and video clips from the unreleased film were reportedly captured and circulated across multiple digital platforms.
Legal Notice Issued by Production House
The production company’s legal representative, Vijayan Subramanian, released a formal statement addressing the situation. In the notice, he said the makers were shocked by the unauthorized exhibition of the film and the subsequent spread of leaked content on social media and other online channels.
The statement claimed that portions of the movie had been illegally recorded during these screenings and later distributed through messaging applications, social media websites and various digital networks. The makers stressed that the circulation of such material violates copyright protections granted under Indian law.
Warning Against Sharing Leaked Content
The legal notice also cautioned the public against downloading, forwarding, storing or sharing any unauthorized footage connected to Karuppu. The producers specifically mentioned platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube and torrent-based websites where leaked clips are often circulated rapidly.
According to the statement, any form of piracy or unlawful sharing of copyrighted movie content could attract legal consequences under the Copyright Act, 1957, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The makers emphasized that these violations are treated as serious offences involving copyright infringement and illegal dissemination of protected cinematic material.
Strict Action Planned Against Violators
Dream Warrior Pictures warned that individuals found participating in the circulation or exhibition of unauthorized content related to Karuppu may face both civil and criminal proceedings. The production house stated that legal action would be initiated against anyone involved in piracy-related activities connected to the film.
The notice further clarified that people engaging in such acts would be held personally responsible for the legal and financial consequences arising from their actions.
Film piracy continues to remain a major challenge for the Indian entertainment industry, particularly around high-profile theatrical releases. Production companies and distributors have increasingly relied on legal enforcement and digital monitoring to curb illegal sharing and protect box office revenues.
With Karuppu generating significant anticipation among fans, the makers have appealed to audiences to support the film through authorized viewing channels and avoid engaging with leaked or pirated material online.
