Construction – Late-Night Work in Juhu Sparks Residents’ Concerns

Construction – Urban noise complaints rising in residential areas- Mumbai’s Juhu neighborhood has come under scrutiny after television actor Urvashi Dholakia publicly raised concerns over ongoing late-night construction that she says is disrupting the daily lives of residents.

Juhu late night construction issue

The actor shared her experience through an open letter on social media, describing the situation as deeply troubling. According to her, construction work has been continuing well beyond permitted hours, causing constant disturbance during the night. She also posted videos to highlight the scale of the activity and its impact.

Residents Report Continuous Night Disturbance

Dholakia stated that for several consecutive days, construction work has extended into late-night hours, with loud machinery, drilling sounds, and movement of materials making it difficult for residents to rest. She emphasized that the noise has affected sleep patterns and overall well-being, especially for families living nearby.

In her statement, she mentioned that the property where the construction is taking place is reportedly owned by television producer Asit Kumar Modi and his family. While raising the issue, she focused primarily on the disruption caused rather than making personal allegations.

Concerns Over Violation of Local Guidelines

Highlighting civic norms, the actor pointed out that construction activities in residential areas are expected to follow strict timing regulations. These rules are designed to minimize inconvenience to residents, particularly during early morning and late-night hours.

She noted that such guidelines appear to be ignored in this case, turning what should be a peaceful residential environment into a source of ongoing stress. According to her, the issue goes beyond inconvenience and directly affects basic living conditions.

Residents in the area, she added, include children, elderly individuals, and working professionals who depend on uninterrupted rest. The continued noise has reportedly created an environment where normal routines are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.

Appeal to Authorities for Immediate Action

In her open letter, Dholakia urged relevant authorities and builders to take corrective measures. She called for strict adherence to approved construction timings and emphasized the need to reduce noise levels during sensitive hours.

She also stressed the importance of respecting residents’ right to peace and rest. The actor expressed hope that authorities would intervene promptly and ensure compliance with existing regulations.

Questions Raised on Emergency Response

The actor further shared her experience of seeking help from local authorities. She revealed that she contacted the police emergency number multiple times in the early hours of the morning, expecting intervention.

According to her account, she made three calls between approximately 4:20 AM and 4:55 AM and waited outside her building for assistance. However, she claimed that no officials arrived during that time.

This experience led her to question the responsiveness of the system. She expressed concern about what could happen in a more serious emergency if help does not arrive promptly.

Issue May Escalate if Unresolved

Dholakia indicated that if the situation continues, residents may consider filing formal complaints with municipal and environmental authorities. She suggested that escalation could become necessary if immediate steps are not taken.

Her statement reflects a broader concern about urban living conditions, where construction activity and regulatory enforcement often come into conflict. The situation in Juhu has drawn attention to the importance of balancing development with the well-being of residents.

While authorities have yet to respond publicly to the issue, the matter has sparked discussion about compliance with construction norms and the need for timely action when residents raise concerns.
