Dutta shared a social media poster carrying the message “Justice for Baruipur” and expressed concern over the incident. In her post, she referred to the victim as a child and urged authorities to identify those responsible. Her statement came as police continued their investigation into the case.

The girl had reportedly gone missing on July 4. Her body was found in a pond in the Baruipur area of West Bengal on July 5, triggering protests and unrest in parts of the locality. Family members have alleged that the child was sexually assaulted and murdered, but police have not confirmed those claims at this stage.

Post-mortem report awaited

Police said the cause of death, as well as any evidence related to sexual assault, would be established after the post-mortem report is received. The autopsy was completed on the night of July 5, according to officials.

Investigators have said that further legal action will depend on the medical findings. If the report points to sexual assault or other offences, an additional case may be registered under relevant provisions of law. Authorities have not released details of the preliminary medical examination.

Security measures introduced after unrest

Following the recovery of the body, local residents gathered and protested in Baruipur. The situation became tense as anger spread across the area. Reports also emerged that a young man was assaulted by a crowd on suspicion of involvement in the child’s death. However, police have not officially confirmed those reports or linked any individual to the case.

To prevent further disturbances, the Baruipur Police District imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, on July 6. The restrictions cover areas under three police stations in the district.

Under the order, gatherings of five or more people have been prohibited until further notice. A large police force has been deployed, with personnel carrying out regular patrols to maintain public order and prevent any fresh violence.

Appeal for calm during investigation

Officials have appealed to residents not to act on unverified information and to allow the investigation to proceed. Police are examining the events leading to the girl’s disappearance and death, while also monitoring the situation in the affected areas.

The case has drawn attention on social media, where several users and public figures have sought a thorough investigation and accountability if criminal wrongdoing is established. Dutta’s post added to the wider public response, though the actor did not provide further comments on the investigation.
