ChocolateMarket – Reliance Consumer and Fazer Join Hands to Expand Premium Chocolates in India
ChocolateMarket – Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods division of Reliance Industries Limited, has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with Finnish food company Fazer to strengthen its presence in India’s premium chocolate segment. The agreement aims to bring internationally recognised chocolate products to Indian consumers while combining global expertise with local manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed during the official visit of Finland’s President, Alexander Stubb, to India. The agreement reflects growing business cooperation between the two countries and signals a shared interest in expanding high-quality food products in the Indian market.
Expanding premium chocolate offerings in India
Under the partnership, RCPL will produce, market and distribute a range of premium chocolates based on Fazer’s recipes and production standards. The products will be developed in line with the Finnish company’s established quality benchmarks while being manufactured and distributed within India using RCPL’s infrastructure.
Reliance Consumer Products plans to leverage its large distribution network and deep understanding of Indian consumer preferences to position these chocolates in the rapidly expanding confectionery sector. By combining international chocolate expertise with local market access, the companies aim to introduce products that appeal to India’s evolving consumer base.
Reliance Consumer Products targets stronger market presence
T. Krishnakumar, Director at Reliance Consumer Products Limited, said the partnership marks an important step in the company’s strategy to broaden its offerings in the chocolate and confectionery market. According to him, introducing Fazer’s globally respected chocolate portfolio will allow RCPL to strengthen its premium product range.
He explained that the collaboration brings together Fazer’s strong global brand reputation and manufacturing expertise with RCPL’s production capabilities and extensive retail reach. With access to millions of retail outlets across the country and strong consumer insights, the company expects to deliver high-quality chocolate products to Indian consumers while enhancing the overall category experience.
Fazer eyes growth in India’s fast-growing confectionery sector
For Fazer, the partnership represents a significant opportunity to expand its international footprint by entering one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing consumer markets. Christoph Vitzthum, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fazer, noted that India’s expanding chocolate market offers considerable growth potential.
He stated that working with RCPL will enable Fazer to introduce its distinctive product portfolio to Indian consumers while building a premium brand presence. With RCPL managing the commercial operations and distribution within the country, the Finnish company believes the collaboration will provide a strong foundation for a nationwide rollout.
Combining global heritage with local scale
The partnership blends Fazer’s long-established heritage brands with RCPL’s large-scale distribution system and market expertise. RCPL currently has access to nearly three million retail outlets across India, giving it a significant advantage in bringing new products to a wide consumer base.
India’s chocolate and confectionery industry has been experiencing steady growth in recent years. Rising disposable incomes, expanding organised retail networks and increasing demand for premium food products have all contributed to the sector’s rapid expansion.
Strengthening international business cooperation
Reliance Consumer Products has been expanding its FMCG portfolio by introducing global brands to Indian consumers. The company has previously brought international products such as Maliban, Nexba and PACE to the domestic market as part of its strategy to build a diverse consumer goods portfolio.
Fazer, meanwhile, already has a strong global presence with operations across the Nordic and Baltic regions, as well as in Poland and China. The company exports its products to more than 40 countries and continues to explore opportunities to grow through both organic expansion and strategic partnerships.
By combining Fazer’s established chocolate expertise with RCPL’s extensive market reach, the partnership aims to build a competitive presence in India’s premium chocolate segment while strengthening international business ties between India and Finland.
