Security Probe – Bihar’s Anti-Terrorism Squad intensified its crackdown on suspected terror-linked activities after arresting a man from Muzaffarpur accused of maintaining contact with a Pakistan-based operative involved in illegal arms dealings and underground criminal networks.

Bihar ats terror network probe

The Bihar Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Friday detained a suspected associate of a Pakistan-based arms handler during a raid conducted in Muzaffarpur district. Officials said the accused had allegedly been using encrypted communication platforms and social media channels to remain connected with individuals linked to anti-India activities.

The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammad Mustafa, a resident of Ratanpur village in north Bihar. During the operation, ATS officials also took Mustafa’s father, Mohammad Sagir, into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Raid Conducted Following Intelligence Inputs

According to investigators, the operation was launched after intelligence agencies shared specific information regarding suspicious online activities connected to the accused. A specialized ATS team later reached the village and carried out the arrest.

Officials involved in the inquiry stated that Mustafa was allegedly in regular communication with Mohammad Shahzad Bhatti, a Pakistan-based figure believed to have links with organized criminal and extremist networks. Authorities suspect that the communication extended beyond casual contact and may have involved the exchange of sensitive information.

During the search operation, investigators seized Mustafa’s mobile phone and digital devices. Forensic experts reportedly managed to recover deleted chats, photographs, and other electronic material that are now being examined in detail.

Sensitive Material Found on Digital Devices

Sources within the investigation revealed that several videos showing strategically important locations in India were recovered from the seized devices. Security agencies are currently assessing the nature and purpose of these recordings.

Officials said some of the recovered material included geo-location details and other information considered sensitive from a national security perspective. Preliminary findings suggest that certain data may have been shared with contacts believed to be associated with Pakistan-based terror-linked groups.

An officer familiar with the probe said authorities are also studying Mustafa’s travel records, internet activity, and usage history of multiple digital devices. Investigators are attempting to establish whether the accused acted independently or was connected to a wider network operating across different regions.

Financial Links Under Examination

Apart from digital evidence, investigators are now examining the possibility of foreign funding. Sources indicated that agencies are tracing financial transactions to determine whether the accused received money or support from sources outside India.

Officials have not yet disclosed details regarding any banking activity or monetary transfers, but inquiries are continuing with the assistance of intelligence and cybercrime units.

Security agencies are also expected to question additional individuals who may have been in contact with the accused through encrypted messaging applications and online platforms.

Agencies Monitoring Cross-Border Criminal Networks

Intelligence officials have earlier identified Mohammad Shahzad Bhatti as an underworld operator allegedly running an organized criminal network with reported ties to Pakistan’s intelligence establishment, including the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Authorities believe such networks often use digital communication tools and social media channels to recruit contacts, exchange information, and coordinate unlawful activities without attracting immediate attention.

The Bihar ATS has intensified surveillance in the region in recent months as agencies continue monitoring potential cross-border links and cyber-based threats connected to national security concerns.
