Politics – Tejashwi Yadav Claims BJP Marginalised Nitish Kumar in Bihar Shift

Politics –  Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that former chief minister Nitish Kumar was effectively sidelined under political pressure. Speaking during a confidence motion debate in the state assembly, Yadav argued that the BJP had deliberately reduced Kumar’s role in Bihar’s leadership landscape.

Allegations of Political Marginalisation

Addressing legislators, Yadav claimed that the BJP never intended to allow Nitish Kumar to continue as chief minister for long. He pointed out that despite earlier assurances projecting Kumar as a key leader of the National Democratic Alliance until 2030, recent developments suggested otherwise. According to Yadav, the shift in leadership reflected a calculated move to weaken Kumar’s political standing.

He emphasized that such changes undermine public trust, particularly when earlier commitments made by alliance partners are not upheld. The remarks came during a debate over the confidence vote sought by the government led by BJP leader Samrat Choudhary.

Concerns Over Frequent Government Changes

Yadav also highlighted what he described as ongoing instability in Bihar’s governance. Referring to the state’s recent political history, he noted that Bihar has witnessed multiple government changes in a relatively short span. This, he argued, sets Bihar apart from other states where administrative continuity is generally maintained.

He suggested that frequent political realignments have made governance unpredictable and could impact long-term development planning. Stability, he added, remains a critical factor for sustained economic and social progress.

Remarks on Samrat Choudhary’s Rise

During his speech, Yadav made references to Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s earlier political associations. He recalled that Choudhary began his career within the RJD and acknowledged that connection. However, he also cautioned that navigating internal dynamics within the BJP could present challenges for the new chief minister.

Yadav suggested that established figures within the BJP and affiliated organizations might not easily accept emerging leadership, hinting at possible internal tensions. His comments appeared aimed at questioning the durability of the current leadership arrangement.

Reference to Viral Political Speech

The RJD leader also mentioned a past election speech by Choudhary’s father, which recently circulated widely on social media. Referring to that clip, Yadav made a pointed remark suggesting that past statements might have influenced current political decisions.

While his comments carried a lighter tone, they were clearly intended to draw attention to the evolving nature of political alliances and relationships in Bihar.

Position on Women’s Reservation

Beyond political criticism, Yadav addressed the ongoing discussion around women’s reservation in legislative bodies. He stressed that any such policy must ensure fair representation for women from economically and socially disadvantaged communities.

According to him, simply introducing quotas would not be sufficient unless they are structured to include diverse sections of society. He called for a more inclusive approach that reflects the realities of caste and social hierarchy.

Broader Political Context

The debate in the Bihar assembly comes at a time of shifting alliances and leadership changes, making the state a focal point of national political attention. Yadav’s remarks underline the continuing contest between major political parties as they seek to consolidate influence ahead of future elections.

The developments also highlight the complexities of coalition politics, where leadership roles and alliances can change rapidly, often leading to sharp exchanges between rivals
