LiquorTragedy – In a troubling development from Bihar, at least five individuals have lost their lives and more than a dozen others have fallen ill after allegedly consuming contaminated liquor in East Champaran district within a span of 24 hours on Friday. The incident has once again drawn attention to the recurring issue of illegal alcohol in the state, which enforces a strict prohibition policy.

Casualties and Health Impact Reported

Local authorities reported that around 15 people experienced serious health complications soon after consuming the suspected spurious liquor. Among the symptoms observed were blurred vision and severe physical distress, raising concerns about possible toxic substances in the drink. Several victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent care.

At the Government Sadar Hospital in Motihari, six individuals are currently receiving treatment, while seven others were discharged after initial medical attention. Doctors have indicated that the condition of at least three patients remains critical, and they continue to be closely monitored.

The fatalities were reported from villages falling under the jurisdiction of Turkaulia and Raghunathpur police stations. District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal confirmed that four deaths have been officially recorded so far, noting that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities are continuing to verify details as more information emerges. Officials stated that the situation is being closely reviewed, and efforts are underway to identify the source of the suspected illicit liquor.

Swarn Prabhat, Superintendent of Police for East Champaran, ordered the immediate suspension of Turkaulia police station’s Station House Officer, Umashankar Manjhi.
