Police Action Based on Intelligence Input

The accused has been identified as Savinder, also known as Baba, aged 36. Police officials said a special team received information that he would be travelling through the GT Karnal Road-Hiranki Pushta Road stretch. Acting on the tip-off, officers set up surveillance and laid a trap at around 10 p.m. on Monday in an effort to apprehend him.

According to investigators, Savinder was believed to be an active member of the Neeraj Bawana/Naveen Bali gang and had remained on the radar of law enforcement agencies because of his alleged criminal activities in parts of North Delhi.

Exchange of Fire During Arrest Operation

Police stated that when officers intercepted the suspect and instructed him to surrender, he allegedly fired multiple rounds at the police team. In response, officers returned fire, during which Savinder sustained a bullet injury to his left leg. He was then overpowered and taken into custody at the scene.

Officials confirmed that no police personnel were injured during the encounter. The operation concluded without any casualties among the police team.

Medical Treatment After the Encounter

Following his arrest, Savinder was rushed to Raja Harishchandra Hospital for immediate treatment. Due to the nature of his injury, doctors later referred him to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for further medical care.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Shobhit D. Saksena said the accused is currently stable and conscious. Authorities added that he remains under medical supervision while legal proceedings continue.

Weapon Seized and Criminal Record Examined

During the search conducted after the encounter, police recovered a pistol along with three live cartridges and five empty cartridge cases from the accused’s possession. The recovered firearm has been seized for forensic examination as part of the investigation.

Police records indicate that Savinder is allegedly involved in six criminal cases. These include charges related to murder, attempted murder, assault, and violations of the Arms Act. Investigators are also examining whether the recovered weapon was used in any previous offences.

Allegations of Extortion and Planned Attack

According to senior police officials, Savinder had allegedly been involved in threatening local businessmen and property dealers, particularly in the Alipur and Narela areas. Investigators claim he was part of an organised network that used intimidation and extortion to target victims.

Police further alleged that he was planning another attack on a person on the same night he was intercepted. Acting on intelligence about the suspected plan, officers moved quickly to prevent any possible incident and arrest the accused before the alleged attack could take place.

Authorities said further investigation is underway to identify any associates connected to the case and to determine whether additional criminal activities can be linked to the accused. Police are also examining the broader network of the Neeraj Bawana/Naveen Bali gang as part of their ongoing efforts against organised crime in the region.
