Government Employees – YSRCP Alleges Rising Attacks on Officials, Demands Swift Legal Action
Government Employees – The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of targeting government employees and called for immediate legal action against those allegedly involved in such incidents. Raising the issue before the media, YSRCP Employees and Pensioners Wing State President Nalamaaru Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged that officials have been facing repeated attacks since the TDP-led coalition assumed office. He claimed that despite several appeals from employees, victims and public organisations, the state administration has failed to provide adequate protection to officials performing their duties.
Alleged Assault on Revenue Officer Draws Criticism
Referring to a recent incident in Chittoor district, Chandrasekhar Reddy strongly condemned the alleged attack on Motumalle Village Revenue Officer Damodaram. According to him, the incident occurred at the Rompicherla Tahsildar’s office, where the officer was interacting with farmers regarding land records. He alleged that TDP leader Sundaram assaulted the officer during the discussion by striking him with a chair.
The YSRCP leader claimed that the attack left Damodaram with serious injuries, including the loss of three teeth. He further alleged that villagers who had gathered at the office to present their grievances were intimidated and forced to leave the premises during the incident.
Concerns Over Safety Inside Government Offices
Chandrasekhar Reddy argued that the alleged assault inside a government office raises serious concerns about the safety of public servants while carrying out official responsibilities. He stated that such incidents create fear among employees and weaken confidence in the state’s administrative system.
According to him, political influence should never become a shield against legal accountability. He alleged that certain ruling party leaders were acting with a sense of impunity, believing they could escape action because of their political connections. He stressed that attacks on government officials undermine both governance and public trust.
Questions Raised Over Government Response
The YSRCP leader also questioned the government’s handling of the matter. He recalled that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had earlier assured government employees of a respectful and secure working environment. However, Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged that the administration has not acted decisively despite the seriousness of the reported incident.
He said the local Tahsildar had already submitted complaints to the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police seeking appropriate legal action. Even so, he claimed that no effective measures had been taken against those accused, leading to concerns among employees regarding their safety and the enforcement of law.
Demand for Immediate Legal Action
Calling for strict enforcement of the law, Chandrasekhar Reddy urged authorities to immediately arrest the person accused in the case and ensure that appropriate legal proceedings are initiated without delay. He maintained that swift action would send a clear message that violence against government officials will not be tolerated.
He further demanded that District Collectors and Superintendents of Police be held accountable whenever attacks on government employees occur within their respective jurisdictions. According to him, stronger administrative oversight and timely intervention are necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future and to restore confidence among government staff across Andhra Pradesh.
