Crime – Ranipet Daylight Attack Investigation Deepens as Second Suspect Arrested
Crime – A young man who was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Tamil Nadu’s Ranipet district remains in critical condition as police continue their investigation into the shocking incident. Authorities have now taken a second suspect into custody, adding a new development to a case that has drawn widespread public attention after video footage of the assault circulated online.
Second Accused Taken Into Custody
Investigators confirmed that Kathirvel has been arrested for allegedly assisting the main accused, Karthik, in the attempted murder case. According to the police, multiple legal provisions have been invoked against those involved in the attack. After being produced before a court, Kathirvel was remanded to judicial custody and transferred to Vellore Central Prison while further inquiries continue.
Police officials stated that the investigation is progressing and additional evidence is being examined to determine the full sequence of events leading to the violent assault.
Victim Remains Under Intensive Medical Care
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Mani, is receiving treatment at a private hospital after sustaining severe injuries. Doctors attending to him said he continues to be in critical condition and remains under constant medical supervision.
Initially, Mani was rushed to the Arcot Government Hospital after the attack, where emergency medical care was provided. Considering the seriousness of his injuries, he was later referred to Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore for advanced treatment.
Dispute Believed to Have Triggered Assault
According to preliminary findings, Mani, a resident of Krishnapuram, operates Everest Auto Consulting on Vellore Main Road in Arcot. Police believe he had been involved in a prolonged dispute with 24-year-old Karthik, who lives in Kollapalayam, also in Arcot.
Investigators said the disagreement reportedly dates back to 2024, when Mani allegedly threatened some of Karthik’s associates. Officials suspect the long-running rivalry eventually escalated into violence.
Attack Unfolded on Busy Road
Police said the incident took place on Wednesday morning after the two men allegedly confronted each other on Vellore Main Road. An argument reportedly broke out before Karthik allegedly retrieved a knife concealed on his motorcycle and chased Mani along the road.
During the attack, Mani was repeatedly assaulted and suffered serious injuries, including severe wounds to the head. Witnesses alerted the police, prompting officers from the Arcot Town Police Station to reach the location without delay.
Finding the victim unconscious, officers arranged for his immediate transportation to the nearest government hospital in an auto-rickshaw before he was shifted for specialized treatment.
CCTV Footage Raises Public Concern
The case has attracted significant attention after CCTV footage of the assault surfaced and spread widely across social media platforms. The visuals have caused concern among local residents, who expressed anxiety over the nature of the attack and the level of violence displayed in a public place during daytime.
Law enforcement officials have urged the public not to circulate unverified information while the investigation remains active.

Police had earlier arrested the principal accused, Karthik, and continue to collect evidence related to the case. Investigators are examining all aspects of the incident, including the role of those suspected of assisting in the attack.
The incident has also renewed discussions among residents about public safety and violent crimes in the region. Authorities have assured that the investigation will proceed according to law and that appropriate action will be taken based on the evidence gathered.
