Investigation – Delhi Police Examines Digital Evidence After Parliament March Violence
Investigation – Delhi Police has intensified its investigation into the clashes that took place during the July 20 protest, with officials focusing on digital evidence and online activity to determine the circumstances surrounding the violence.
The Delhi Police Special Cell is examining whether there was any larger conspiracy behind the unrest that erupted when supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) marched toward Parliament over allegations related to a paper leak. The demonstration turned violent after confrontations broke out between protesters and security personnel, prompting authorities to launch a detailed inquiry into the events leading up to the incident.
Digital Data Under Detailed Scrutiny
As part of the investigation, teams from the Special Cell and the Cyber Cell are conducting an extensive analysis of electronic data collected from multiple locations where the violence was reported. Officials are reviewing information gathered through mobile towers situated around Sansad Marg, Jantar Mantar, and Connaught Place.
The ongoing examination includes mobile phone numbers, call detail records (CDRs), and device location information from individuals whose phones were active in these areas during the time of the clashes. Investigators believe the analysis could help establish the sequence of events and identify people who may have played a role in the violence.
Social Media Activity Also Under Investigation
Police have also stepped up action against online accounts accused of spreading misleading information related to the protests. According to officials, nearly 480 social media accounts have been identified and blocked for allegedly circulating false or misleading content connected to the incident.
Authorities stated that several of these accounts had previously been active during Operation Sindoor and are now being examined for their role in sharing unverified claims. The police alleged that many of these accounts originated from Pakistan and were being used to amplify rumours and misinformation surrounding the protests.
Police Appeal Against Misinformation
In an official appeal, Delhi Police urged citizens to remain cautious while consuming and sharing information on social media platforms. Officials warned that edited videos, anonymous posts, and unverified claims can create confusion and unnecessarily increase tensions.
The police advised the public to verify the authenticity of information through credible sources before forwarding it online. They also reiterated that peaceful demonstrations remain a democratic right but stressed that misinformation and provocative content should not be allowed to influence public opinion or disrupt law and order.
Video Footage Being Examined
Alongside digital records, investigators are carefully reviewing multiple video clips recorded during the protest. Some of the footage reportedly shows individuals wearing face coverings who are suspected of participating in stone-pelting and other violent acts.
Officials are working to verify the authenticity of these videos and identify those allegedly involved. The visual evidence is expected to be matched with digital records and other investigative material to build a clearer picture of how the violence unfolded.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue collecting evidence from both physical and digital sources. Police have indicated that every available lead will be examined before reaching any conclusions regarding the causes of the violence or the possible involvement of organised groups. Further action will depend on the findings emerging from the investigation.
