Members of the opposition and the ruling alliance traded sharp accusations, with the debate centering on allegations of police action against students and claims of violence during the demonstrations. Opposition Raises Questions Over Police Action
Soon after the Assembly convened, senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Alok Mehta brought up the events linked to the student demonstrations held a day earlier. He alleged that protesting students had faced police action that included the use of force, detentions, and firing. Seeking clarity from the government, Mehta called for an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the incidents and the decisions taken by the authorities.
His remarks immediately drew objections from members of the treasury benches, triggering loud exchanges across the House. As the debate intensified, Mehta accused the ruling side of attempting to suppress the voices of students and argued that those opposing his comments were acting against student interests.
Demand for Dialogue Instead of Confrontation
Continuing his address, the RJD leader maintained that students participating in peaceful demonstrations were exercising their democratic rights. Ruling party MLA Raju Tiwari urged the Speaker to consider a censure motion over the alleged assaults on MLAs, journalists, and others. He said violence directed at public representatives and members of the press could not be accepted in a democratic system and deserved clear condemnation from the House.

Members of the treasury benches argued that the unrest should not be viewed solely as a student movement. According to them, political interests may have influenced the demonstrations, while anti-social elements allegedly entered the protests and contributed to incidents of violence and disorder.
