Infrastructure – The Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council has initiated strict action against three contractors after finding significant delays in several public infrastructure projects linked to the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Following an inspection of multiple work sites, the civic body announced a daily penalty of ₹25,000 for each contractor until the pending work resumes and progresses according to schedule.
Civic Inspection Highlights Delayed Projects
A review team led by Municipal Council President Triveni Sonawane, Vice-President Vedika Patankar, Chief Officer Govind Jadhav, and senior municipal engineers visited various construction locations to assess the pace of ongoing development. During the inspection, officials observed that work had either slowed considerably or had stopped completely at several important sites, raising concerns about timely completion before the religious gathering.
The inspection covered several projects considered essential for improving public infrastructure ahead of the large influx of pilgrims expected during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
Major Development Works Affected
According to municipal officials, several critical projects are behind schedule. These include road concretisation, construction of stormwater drainage systems, underground electrical cabling, installation of RCC pipelines for optical fibre connectivity, and expansion of the underground sewerage network.
Authorities also noted that construction activity had completely stopped along key stretches, including the route from Gagangiri Ashram to Patil Galli and the section connecting the Police Station to Jawhar Phata. The stalled work has reportedly created inconvenience for local residents and affected daily movement in these areas.
Three Contractors Face Daily Financial Penalty
The Municipal Council has imposed a daily fine of ₹25,000 on each of the three contractors responsible for the delayed projects.
Sarjeet Construction has been penalised for not beginning the expansion of the underground sewerage network and associated property chamber work on the Gagangiri Ashram to Patil Galli route within the scheduled timeframe.
SBD Infra-Tech Pvt Ltd has been fined after officials found that road concreting, stormwater drain construction, and Granular Sub Base (GSB) work had been suspended along the same stretch.
Rudra Construction has also been directed to pay a daily penalty for halting road concreting, GSB operations, and stone-laying work between the Police Station and Jawhar Phata.
Municipal Council Calls for Timely Completion
Speaking after the inspection, Municipal Council President Triveni Sonawane said the review revealed that progress at several project locations was either extremely slow or completely halted. She stated that the penalties were imposed to ensure accountability and encourage contractors to resume work without further delay.
She also instructed all contractors to maintain prescribed quality standards while ensuring that every project is completed within the approved timeline. According to the council, timely completion of these works remains essential for providing safe and efficient infrastructure before the commencement of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
Focus Remains on Public Convenience
Municipal authorities have indicated that regular inspections will continue as the deadline for the religious event approaches. Officials aim to ensure that all civic infrastructure is completed on time so that residents and visiting pilgrims can benefit from improved roads, drainage facilities, utility services, and better overall public amenities during the event.
The council has reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitor ongoing work and take appropriate administrative action whenever delays threaten the scheduled completion of important public projects.
