FactCheck – Delhi Police Rejects Viral Claims of Violence at Jantar Mantar Protest
FactCheck –Delhi Police has rejected allegations circulating on social media that its personnel opened fire or hurled stones during the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar, calling the claims entirely false and urging people to verify information before sharing it online.
Delhi Police on Friday issued a public clarification after several social media posts alleged that officers used force against demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar in the national capital. The police stated that no firing or stone-pelting incident occurred during the protest and said the videos being shared online were accompanied by misleading claims. According to the official statement, the footage being circulated was not recorded at the Jantar Mantar protest site and was being used to spread a false narrative.
Police Appeal Against Misinformation
In a post shared on X, Delhi Police urged citizens to avoid forwarding or believing unverified content related to the protest. Officials warned that misleading information on social media has the potential to create unnecessary anxiety and confusion among the public.
The police maintained that there had been no incident involving firing or stone-pelting by its personnel at the protest venue. Authorities stressed that the circulated videos were being presented without factual context and should not be treated as authentic evidence of events at Jantar Mantar.
Officials also reminded social media users to exercise caution before sharing posts, emphasizing that verifying information is important to prevent the spread of false claims during sensitive public events.
Second Clarification Over Food Delivery Allegation
Apart from addressing the viral videos, Delhi Police also denied another allegation related to the ongoing demonstration. The clarification came after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das claimed that three young men had been detained at Nizamuddin Police Station while transporting food for protesters assembled at Jantar Mantar.
Responding to the allegation, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ravi Kumar Singh described the claim as inaccurate and misleading. He stated that the individuals were not detained because they were carrying food to the protest site.
Officials Explain Routine Vehicle Check
According to the police, the vehicle carrying the food was stopped as part of a routine security check at a picket. Officers said they were conducting standard identity verification and confirming the occupants’ origin and destination when the vehicle’s driver unexpectedly left the location along with the vehicle and the belongings inside it.
The police explained that the remaining occupants later informed officials that the food was intended for protesters at Jantar Mantar. They also stated that the driver had been arranged through one of the occupants’ acquaintances and was not personally known to them.
Officials added that, until the driver departed, the police team was not aware that the food items were meant for people participating in the demonstration. They further clarified that no one was prevented from transporting food to the protest venue.
Protest Continues Over NEET Leak Demands
The police statements were issued as the Cockroach Janta Party continued its protest at Jantar Mantar, raising several demands linked to the alleged NEET examination paper leak. Among its key demands is the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
While the demonstration remains underway, Delhi Police has reiterated that public order is being maintained through routine security arrangements. Authorities have once again appealed to citizens to rely only on verified information from official sources and avoid amplifying unconfirmed reports that could misrepresent events or create unnecessary public concern.
