DelhiPolice – Police Reject Viral Claims as Protesters Continue Demonstration in Delhi
DelhiPolice – Delhi Police has dismissed social media claims suggesting that incidents of stone-pelting and fresh police action took place in the national capital, stating that the videos and related allegations being circulated online are inaccurate. Authorities appealed to the public to avoid forwarding unverified content and instead depend on official communication channels for authentic updates.
The clarification was issued through an official statement by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), who said several videos being widely shared on social media falsely claimed that violence and police intervention had occurred during the day. According to the police, no such incidents were reported, and the circulating posts were described as misleading. Officials also urged citizens to verify information before sharing it, warning that misinformation can create unnecessary confusion during sensitive situations.
Protest Continues at Jantar Mantar
The police statement came as demonstrators gathered once again at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, continuing their protest following Monday’s confrontation during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march. Protesters remained at the site after the previous day’s events, with security personnel maintaining a strong presence across the area to ensure law and order.
The demonstration is being led by supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), along with a large number of students. Their primary demand is the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including concerns linked to the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. The protest has drawn attention from student groups and political supporters who say accountability is necessary over examination-related issues.
Security Measures Remain in Place
On Monday, Delhi Police had enforced prohibitory restrictions and installed barricades along routes leading towards Parliament to prevent the protest march from advancing beyond designated areas. Authorities had cited security considerations while restricting movement near the Parliament complex.
Following the removal of temporary protest structures, including tents and the stage at Jantar Mantar, demonstrators regrouped on Tuesday after the CJP called for the agitation to continue. A substantial deployment of Delhi Police personnel, supported by the Rapid Action Force (RAF), remained stationed at the protest venue to monitor the situation and prevent any escalation.
Protest Organisers Vow to Continue Campaign
CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the protest would continue until the party’s demand for the Education Minister’s resignation is addressed. Speaking to the media, he alleged that students, volunteers, and other participants faced police action during Monday’s confrontation and claimed that several protesters sustained injuries.
Ranka further stated that the movement is expected to attract additional participants in the coming days. He alleged that the handling of the protest by security personnel had strengthened support for the campaign and encouraged more people to join the demonstrations.
Allegations Raised by Protest Leaders
The CJP spokesperson also alleged that some women protesters were subjected to inappropriate treatment during Monday’s clashes. Among those mentioned was Geetanjali J. Angmo, the wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. These allegations have been raised by protest organisers, while Delhi Police has not confirmed the claims in its official statement.
As the protest continues, authorities have reiterated their appeal for people to rely only on verified information issued through official sources and to avoid sharing unconfirmed videos or messages that could spread misinformation about the situation.
