The incident has drawn attention because Kumar’s family says he had been under considerable pressure in the period before his death. Jagan described the situation as deeply distressing, particularly because Kumar is survived by his wife and three young children.
Claims of repeated police station visits
Speaking with the family, Jagan said Kumar had faced minor criminal cases in the past, but those matters had reportedly been closed years earlier. Despite this, he alleged that Kumar was required to appear at a police station every day for nearly three months.
According to Jagan, the repeated visits and alleged pressure from police had affected Kumar severely. He said the allegations contained in Kumar’s video should be examined carefully by investigators.
The family has sought action against those named in the video and has called for a fair inquiry into the circumstances that led to Kumar’s death.
Questions raised over response to video
Jagan said Kumar’s father had shown the recorded video to the Vijayawada Police Commissioner after his son’s death. He questioned why no immediate action was taken on the allegations mentioned in the recording.
