Wimbledon – Novak Djokovic Advances After Commanding Win Over Tsitsipas

Wimbledon – Novak Djokovic produced a composed and clinical display to defeat Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of Wimbledon on Wednesday night. The Serbian star won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 38 minutes, moving a step closer to another deep run at the grass-court Grand Slam.

Djokovic strengthens record against Tsitsipas

The victory extended Djokovic’s strong head-to-head record against Tsitsipas to 13 wins from 15 meetings. It also marked the 20th occasion that Djokovic has progressed to the third round at Wimbledon, underlining his long-standing consistency at the tournament.

Djokovic entered the match with the aim of adding to his record-breaking Grand Slam collection. The 38-year-old has not won a major title since the 2023 US Open and is seeking his 25th Grand Slam singles crown at this year’s Wimbledon.

Sharp serving and controlled returns define the contest

Djokovic remained in control for most of the match, combining accurate serving with aggressive returning. He did not face a break of serve and kept Tsitsipas under pressure from the opening set.

One of the decisive moments came when Djokovic moved ahead 5-2 and delivered a particularly strong return game. He broke Tsitsipas’ serve after producing three winners, including a well-judged lob that landed close to the baseline.

The Serbian finished the contest with 33 winners and only seven unforced errors, reflecting the high level of precision he maintained throughout the match. Tsitsipas struggled to create sustained opportunities, particularly when Djokovic raised the pace during key points.

Djokovic pleased with his performance level

Speaking after the match, Djokovic said he enjoyed the rhythm he found on court and felt more relaxed as the contest progressed.

“You feel very happy, satisfied and joyful on the court when you are playing this way,” Djokovic said during his on-court interview.

He also highlighted the importance of building momentum during the match, saying the return game when he moved 5-2 ahead was among his best in recent times. Djokovic added that he was able to play with less tension and greater freedom while attacking the ball.

Tsitsipas continues difficult season

Tsitsipas arrived at Wimbledon ranked 87th in the world after dealing with injuries and inconsistent results over recent seasons. The former world No. 3 has shown flashes of his earlier form but was unable to match Djokovic’s level during the second-round contest.

The Greek player had limited success on return and could not find a way to disrupt Djokovic’s service games. Despite some competitive rallies, Tsitsipas was unable to build enough pressure to challenge the seven-time Wimbledon champion.

Arthur Rinderknech awaits in third round

Djokovic will next face France’s Arthur Rinderknech in the third round. The Serbian will enter that match as the favourite, but he is expected to face a different challenge against the Frenchman, who has the ability to use his height and serve effectively on grass.

With his latest victory, Djokovic has again shown that he remains one of the strongest contenders in the Wimbledon draw. His performance against Tsitsipas offered a clear sign that his movement, return game and confidence are improving as the tournament progresses.
