GoldMining – Andhra Pradesh Set to Launch Major Private Gold Project
GoldMining – Andhra Pradesh is preparing to enter a new phase in mineral-based industrial expansion with the launch of a large-scale private gold mining project in Kurnool district.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to inaugurate the Jonnagiri Gold Project in Tuggali Mandal of Kurnool district on Wednesday, a development expected to strengthen the state’s mining sector and attract further industrial investment. The project is being viewed as a significant step in expanding mineral exploration and processing activities within the region.
Chief Minister to Launch Processing Facility
According to official information, the Chief Minister will arrive at Jonnagiri at around 11:45 a.m. to formally inaugurate the first unit of the gold processing facility. During the visit, he will also lay the foundation stone for the second unit of the Geo Mysore plant, which is being developed as part of the project’s future expansion plans.
The visit schedule includes interactions with local stakeholders and a public gathering later in the day. Following the public meeting, Naidu is expected to hold discussions with leaders and workers of the Telugu Desam Party from the Pattikonda Assembly constituency.
Investment Backing and Project Development
The gold mining venture has been established through a combined investment of approximately Rs 405 crore by Geo Mysore Services India Private Limited and Deccan Gold Mines Limited. Project developers have already completed trial operations at both mining and processing facilities, paving the way for commercial production after the official launch.
Industry observers note that commercial gold mining in India has traditionally been associated with Karnataka’s historic Kolar Gold Fields. However, the Jonnagiri project is expected to emerge as a major contributor to domestic gold production and could create a new benchmark for private-sector participation in the industry.
Expansion Planned Across 1,500 Acres
The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted nearly 1,500 acres for the Jonnagiri Gold Fields project. Mining operations will initially be carried out on about 600 acres during the first phase. Processing infrastructure required for extracting and refining gold has already been installed and tested.
Officials stated that the remaining land area will be developed in the next phase, allowing mining activities and production capacity to expand over time. The phased approach has been designed to support sustainable growth while ensuring operational efficiency.
Production Targets and Economic Impact
Project estimates indicate that around 400 kilograms of gold could be produced during the first year of commercial operations. Output is expected to increase substantially from the second year, reaching approximately 900 kilograms annually before gradually rising to nearly two tonnes each year as processing capacity is enhanced.
Beyond mineral production, the project is expected to create significant employment opportunities in the region. Around 700 direct and indirect jobs are likely to be generated through mining, processing, logistics, and support services associated with the venture.
Revenue Benefits for the State
The state government is also expected to gain financially from the project’s output. Under existing arrangements, Andhra Pradesh will receive a four percent royalty based on the value of gold produced.
Current projections suggest royalty earnings could reach nearly Rs 57 crore from annual production of 400 kilograms of gold. If production rises to 900 kilograms as planned, royalty collections may increase to approximately Rs 144 crore, providing an additional source of revenue for the state exchequer.
