Governance – PM Modi Completes Twelve Years Marking a New Political Milestone
Governance – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to complete 12 uninterrupted years leading the Union government, marking a significant milestone in the country’s political journey. The occasion also coincides with the second anniversary of his third consecutive term, a rare achievement in modern Indian politics. Senior leaders of the government highlighted the development on Tuesday, describing it as an important chapter in India’s democratic history.

Rajnath Singh Highlights Leadership Journey
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reflected on the anniversary through a post on social media platform X. He noted that June 2024 marked the beginning of Prime Minister Modi’s third consecutive term in office, calling it a historic moment for the nation. According to Singh, the Prime Minister’s leadership over the past twelve years has focused on public service and efforts aimed at ensuring development benefits reach all sections of society.
The Defence Minister stated that the government’s approach has been guided by the principle of putting national service ahead of personal interests. He said the period has witnessed initiatives focused on poverty reduction, stronger security measures, policy reforms, infrastructure expansion and the growing use of digital technology in governance.
Focus on Development and Reform
According to Singh, the past decade has been characterized by programs designed to improve public welfare while strengthening key sectors of the economy and administration. He also emphasized the government’s focus on inclusive growth and long-term national development goals.
The minister added that the achievements of the last twelve years are being viewed as part of India’s broader vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He described the period as one marked by continuity in leadership and sustained efforts toward governance reforms.
A Political Journey Spanning More Than Two Decades
Prime Minister Modi first assumed office as Prime Minister in May 2014 after leading his party to a decisive electoral victory. He secured another mandate in 2019 and returned for a third consecutive term in 2024, becoming one of the few Indian leaders to achieve such a feat.
His experience in executive leadership extends beyond his tenure in New Delhi. Before becoming Prime Minister, Modi served for nearly thirteen years as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Combined with his years in the Prime Minister’s Office, his time in executive positions now exceeds two decades.
Major Infrastructure Projects During the Modi Era
The period has also been associated with several large-scale infrastructure and development projects undertaken across the country. These include the construction of the new Parliament building, redevelopment work under the Central Vista project, the transformation of Kartavya Path, and the introduction of Vande Bharat trains.
Other notable projects include the Statue of Unity, the commissioning of INS Vikrant, progress on the Kashmir rail link, development of Noida International Airport, expansion of the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System, and the construction of the Ganga Expressway. These initiatives have often been presented as part of the government’s broader efforts to modernize infrastructure and improve connectivity.
Nearing Another Historical Record
On June 10, Prime Minister Modi is expected to surpass a significant benchmark associated with India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. While Nehru served as the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister, Modi’s uninterrupted twelve-year tenure places him among the most enduring leaders in independent India’s history.
With three years remaining in his current term, his continuous period in office continues to add to a political record that has already reshaped India’s electoral landscape and governance framework over the last decade
