Security – Counter-Intelligence Operations Intensify Across Jammu and Kashmir

Security –   Security agencies have stepped up efforts across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir as authorities move to dismantle suspected terror-linked networks and prevent activities believed to contribute to radicalisation. On Wednesday, the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) carried out coordinated search operations in multiple districts, including Srinagar, Sopore, Kupwara, Anantnag, Kulgam, and Bandipora.

Searches Linked to Terror Network Investigation

According to officials, the raids were conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged Pakistan-backed terrorist organisations and their support structures operating within the region. Authorities said the operation focused on identifying sleeper cells and individuals suspected of assisting unlawful activities.

The investigation has been registered under several legal provisions, including the Foreigners Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Arms Act. Officials stated that the searches were aimed at gathering evidence, tracking communication channels, and disrupting networks believed to be involved in facilitating extremist activities.

Security Agencies Focus on Preventive Measures

Officials familiar with the operation said the latest action forms part of a broader security strategy intended to curb recruitment efforts and prevent the spread of radical ideologies. Intelligence teams have been working to identify individuals and groups suspected of maintaining links with banned organisations.

Authorities have not disclosed the number of locations searched or whether any arrests were made during the operation. However, they indicated that investigations are continuing and that further action may follow based on evidence collected during the searches.

Operation Sheruwali Enters Extended Phase

Meanwhile, a separate anti-terror operation in Rajouri district has entered an advanced stage as security forces continue combing dense forest regions in search of suspected militants. The joint mission, named Operation Sheruwali, was launched after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of armed individuals in the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forest areas of the Manjakote sector.

The operation is being conducted jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Search teams have been deployed across difficult terrain, with personnel carrying out extensive surveillance and area domination exercises.

Heavy Exchange of Fire Prompted Security Reinforcement

The operation gained urgency after reports of intense firing and shelling emerged from the Dorimal forest zone last week. Following the incident, security forces increased deployment levels and tightened monitoring across routes leading into and out of the area.

Senior officials said additional manpower and logistical resources were moved into the region to strengthen the ongoing mission. The objective is to maintain a secure perimeter around the suspected hideout area while search teams continue ground operations.

Difficult Terrain Presents Operational Challenges

The thick forest cover and rugged landscape have complicated search efforts, requiring security personnel to proceed with caution. Teams on the ground are relying on continuous surveillance and coordinated intelligence inputs to monitor movements within the area.

Officials said every available resource is being utilised to locate the suspected militants and address any potential security threat. The operation remains active, with forces maintaining a strong presence across the affected sector as efforts continue to ensure the safety and security of the region.
