CinemaLegacy – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao on his 103rd birth anniversary, recalling his contributions to public service and Indian cinema that continue to leave a lasting impact across generations.

The Prime Minister shared a message on social media, describing NTR as a leader deeply committed to the welfare of ordinary people and a cultural icon admired for his remarkable body of work in films. Modi said NTR’s ideals and achievements remain an inspiration for millions even decades after his rise to prominence.
Modi Highlights NTR’s Public Welfare Vision
In his message posted on X, the Prime Minister said the late Telugu Desam Party founder worked tirelessly to protect the dignity and interests of poor and marginalized communities. He noted that NTR’s approach to governance earned widespread respect and established him as one of the most influential regional leaders in the country’s political history.
Modi also praised the veteran actor’s cinematic legacy, stating that his performances and storytelling continue to attract audiences of all ages. NTR’s memorable roles in Telugu cinema helped him gain enormous popularity long before he entered politics.
The Prime Minister further mentioned that the present NDA government in Andhra Pradesh, led by Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu, remains focused on carrying forward the aspirations NTR had envisioned for the people of the state.
A Towering Figure in Telugu Cinema and Politics
Born on May 28, 1923, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao became one of the most celebrated personalities in Telugu cinema through a career that spanned acting, direction, production, and film editing. His portrayals of mythological and historical characters earned him immense recognition and transformed him into a household name across South India.
After achieving major success in the film industry, NTR entered politics and founded the Telugu Desam Party. His political journey quickly reshaped Andhra Pradesh politics, and he went on to serve multiple terms as the state’s Chief Minister.
Many political observers continue to regard him as a leader who introduced welfare-driven governance and strengthened regional political identity in Andhra Pradesh during the 1980s and 1990s.

Throughout his long career, NTR received several prestigious honours for his work in Indian cinema. He won three National Film Awards for his contributions to films including Thodu Dongalu, Seetharama Kalyanam, and Varakatnam.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary, actor Jr NTR visited NTR Ghat in Hyderabad to pay floral tributes to his grandfather. Several family members and supporters also gathered at the memorial to honour the late leader’s memory.
Among those who paid respects were NTR’s wife Lakshmi Parvathi and daughter Daggubati Purandeswari. The commemorative events reflected the enduring emotional and political connection that many people in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana continue to share with the late leader.
