Supporters Gather Outside Shivakumar Residence

A large number of Congress workers and loyalists assembled near DK Shivakumar’s residence in Bengaluru as speculation over the Chief Minister’s post gained momentum. Former Bengaluru Mayor R Sampath Raj was among the prominent leaders seen visiting the residence before an important meeting called by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The gathering came ahead of Siddaramaiah’s scheduled breakfast meeting with senior Congress leaders, which is being viewed as politically significant at a time when discussions around a possible change in leadership have intensified within the state unit of the party.

Leadership Debate Continues Within Congress

Political conversations around the Karnataka Chief Minister’s post have continued ever since the Congress government completed two-and-a-half years in office. With the administration now entering its third year, reports of a possible leadership reshuffle have resurfaced once again.

Both Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar recently travelled to New Delhi, where they attended a high-level meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and other senior party figures. Sources within the party indicated that another round of internal discussions may take place before a final decision is announced.

While no official confirmation has been issued regarding a leadership change, several party insiders believe the Congress high command is carefully evaluating the political situation in Karnataka before taking the next step.

Party Maintains Official Silence on Leadership Change

Despite growing public speculation, Congress leaders have continued to dismiss reports of an immediate leadership transition. According to the party, the recent meetings in Delhi mainly focused on preparations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and Karnataka Legislative Council polls.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal addressed the media after the discussions and stated that the party leadership concentrated entirely on election-related matters. He said the meeting included Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, and other senior leaders.

Venugopal also confirmed that the Congress party would announce candidates for Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka along with candidates from several other states in the coming days.

MLA Remarks Add Fuel to Speculation

The political buzz intensified further after Congress MLA Ashok M Pattan hinted at the possibility of Siddaramaiah submitting his resignation. Speaking to reporters, Pattan claimed that the Chief Minister had reportedly sought an appointment with the Governor and suggested that developments could unfold later in the day.

He also indicated that the final decision regarding the next Chief Minister would rest with the Congress high command. According to him, the party leadership’s instructions would be accepted by all leaders and legislators.

Pattan’s remarks quickly attracted attention across political circles, especially as supporters of DK Shivakumar continued to express confidence in his elevation to the top post.

Siddaramaiah Avoids Direct Response

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah refrained from making any definitive statement on the ongoing speculation. On Wednesday, he said matters discussed with the Congress high command would become clear soon, without elaborating further on the issue.

The developments have once again placed Karnataka politics under national focus, with observers closely watching whether the Congress leadership opts for continuity or introduces a change in the state’s top leadership in the coming days.
