SecurityRestrictions – Pune Police Enforce Citywide Curbs Ahead of Festival Season

SecurityRestrictions –  The Pune City Police has introduced temporary restrictions across the city ahead of Bakri Eid and several other upcoming events, aiming to maintain public order and prevent any disturbance during the festive period. The prohibitory measures have been enforced under Section 37 (1) (3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, and will remain active from May 26 to June 8.

Pune police festival security curbs

According to an official notification released by the Special Branch of Pune Police, the order was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Prashant Avasakar. Authorities stated that the decision was taken after assessing possible law and order challenges linked to public gatherings, protests, and festival-related activities scheduled during the coming days.

Restrictions Introduced Across Pune City

The police order applies throughout the limits of the Pune City Police Commissionerate. Officials explained that various political groups, social organisations, and local associations often organise rallies, demonstrations, sit-ins, hunger strikes, and protest marches over different issues. In such situations, authorities believe there is a possibility of tension or disruption affecting public peace.

To avoid any untoward incidents, police have banned the carrying of weapons and hazardous materials in public places during the restriction period. The prohibited items include firearms, swords, sticks, explosives, inflammable substances, and any object capable of causing physical harm.

Limits on Gatherings and Processions

As part of the preventive measures, gatherings of five or more people without official permission have also been restricted. Processions, public marches, and slogan shouting activities will require prior approval from the Pune Police Commissioner’s office.

Officials said the restrictions are intended to ensure peaceful celebrations during Bakri Eid and to avoid situations that could lead to clashes or unrest. Police personnel are expected to increase patrolling and monitoring in sensitive areas across the city during the enforcement period.

Ban on Provocative Acts and Materials

The order additionally prohibits actions that could disturb communal harmony or create tension among communities. Authorities have banned the use of provocative slogans, inflammatory speeches, objectionable posters, symbols, and public displays that may affect social peace.

The police have also restricted the use of loud musical instruments and the burning or display of effigies in public spaces. Any speeches, announcements, or appeals that may threaten social stability, encourage violence, or create security concerns have been barred under the temporary order.

Officials noted that these restrictions are precautionary in nature and are commonly implemented during sensitive periods involving festivals or large public gatherings.

Exemptions Granted to Certain Personnel

The prohibitory order will not apply to government employees performing official duties. Private security guards, home guards, and watchmen have also been exempted while carrying sticks up to 3.5 feet in length as part of their work responsibilities.

Police authorities clarified that all exempted individuals must continue following standard safety guidelines while on duty.

Action Against Violators

The Pune Police has warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the imposed restrictions. Cases against violators will be registered under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

The order officially came into effect at 12:01 am on May 26 and will continue until midnight on June 8. During this period, authorities have appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow all instructions issued for public safety.
