CurrencyCrime – Chittoor Fake Currency Case Puts Police Conduct Under Scrutiny
CurrencyCrime – A major controversy has emerged in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district after investigators uncovered the alleged involvement of two police personnel in a fake currency operation. The incident has triggered serious concerns over misuse of authority and possible links between law enforcement officials and criminal networks dealing in counterfeit money.

Fake Currency Deal Reportedly Planned in Advance
According to police officials, the case surfaced within the jurisdiction of the Gangadhara Nellore police station, where a counterfeit currency network was allegedly operating quietly for some time. Authorities identified Selvam, a resident of Velkuru village in Gangadhara Nellore mandal, as the main accused in the operation.
Investigators said Selvam had reportedly contacted two men from Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu with an offer to supply fake currency notes valued at nearly Rs 1 crore. In return, the Tamil Nadu men were expected to provide Rs 10 lakh in genuine cash as part of the deal.
The meeting between the accused parties was allegedly arranged near Battikandriga village on Friday evening. Police sources stated that the visitors from Tamil Nadu arrived at the location carrying the agreed amount of cash. However, officials later discovered that Selvam did not possess any counterfeit currency at the time of the exchange.
Police Personnel Allegedly Linked to the Operation
As the cash transaction was about to take place, an Assistant Sub-Inspector and an Armed Reserve constable reportedly reached the location unexpectedly. Fearing legal action, the two visitors from Tamil Nadu abandoned the cash and escaped from the scene immediately.
Initial findings later suggested that the arrival of the two police personnel may not have been accidental. Investigators suspect the officers were allegedly aware of the plan beforehand and had coordinated with Selvam as part of the operation.
After the Tamil Nadu men fled the area, Selvam allegedly divided the abandoned cash with the two police personnel. Officials believe the accused assumed the matter would remain hidden since there were no immediate witnesses at the spot.
Suspicion Leads to Formal Complaint
The case took a dramatic turn after the Tamil Nadu duo reportedly became suspicious about the sequence of events. Sources familiar with the investigation said the men noticed that Selvam appeared unusually calm despite the sudden arrival of police officers during the transaction.
Their suspicion reportedly grew stronger after they reconsidered how the incident unfolded. The duo later approached officials at the Gangadhara Nellore police station and explained the entire episode in detail.
Based on the information provided, police teams initiated a detailed inquiry into the matter. Authorities tracked Selvam’s mobile phone location and launched a search operation around Battikandriga village.
Accused Taken Into Custody During Search Operation
Police later located Selvam along with the ASI and the AR constable inside a mango grove near the village. Officials detained all three individuals for questioning as part of the investigation.
The two men from Tamil Nadu were also taken into custody while statements and evidence related to the suspected counterfeit network were collected. Investigators are now examining whether the accused were connected to a larger fake currency syndicate operating across state borders.
Senior officials have reportedly ordered a deeper probe into possible connections between certain police personnel and counterfeit currency gangs. The investigation is expected to focus on whether similar incidents had occurred earlier and if more individuals were involved in the racket.
The incident has generated widespread discussion locally, especially because law enforcement officials themselves have been accused of participating in unlawful activities instead of preventing crime. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken if the allegations are proven during the investigation.
