BRICS – India Pushes for Inclusive Global Order at BRICS Meeting
BRICS – External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday said discussions taking place during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi are expected to contribute toward building a fairer, more balanced and inclusive international framework.

The minister welcomed delegates and senior representatives attending the gathering, describing the current global environment as increasingly unpredictable and complex. He pointed out that developing economies and emerging markets continue to face serious pressure due to ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges affecting multiple regions worldwide.
Focus on Global Economic Stability
Addressing the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted the growing concerns surrounding energy availability, food supplies, fertiliser access and healthcare security. He stressed that countries must work together more effectively to respond to these challenges, particularly at a time when many economies are struggling with inflationary pressures and supply disruptions.
The External Affairs Minister also underlined the importance of keeping international shipping routes secure and uninterrupted. According to him, stable maritime trade remains essential for sustaining global commerce and ensuring economic well-being across nations dependent on international trade networks.
He further stated that resilient supply chains and broader market diversification are necessary to strengthen long-term economic stability. Reliable trade systems, he noted, can help countries better withstand future global disruptions.
Technology and Governance Discussions
Jaishankar also drew attention to the role of technology in supporting governance and economic inclusion. He said digital innovation should be used to improve public services and promote development opportunities while ensuring transparency, trust and fair access for all nations.
At the same time, he emphasised the importance of addressing concerns related to technological inequality and access gaps between developed and developing economies. He indicated that cooperation among BRICS nations could help create more balanced growth in the digital sector.
Call for Dialogue and Security Cooperation
During his remarks, the minister stressed that international peace and security challenges should be handled through diplomacy and dialogue. He called for stronger global cooperation against terrorism and urged nations to work collectively to maintain stability in sensitive regions.
Jaishankar also repeated India’s long-standing demand for reforms in global institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council. He said multilateral organisations must evolve to reflect current geopolitical realities and provide better representation for emerging nations in both permanent and non-permanent categories.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the minister stated that India’s BRICS presidency is focused on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. He expressed confidence that the ongoing discussions would support efforts toward creating a more equitable international order.
India Begins Key BRICS Leadership Role
The two-day BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting officially began in New Delhi under India’s chairmanship. The event has brought together foreign ministers and high-level officials from BRICS member states along with partner countries participating in the expanded grouping.
This meeting is considered the first major ministerial engagement hosted by India during its BRICS leadership term. Officials believe the discussions held in New Delhi will help shape priorities and policy direction ahead of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled later this year.
India’s BRICS chairship in 2026 is being guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The approach reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on people-focused development and collective global progress, which was highlighted during the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
