Accident – Labourers Killed After Vehicle Overturns on Highway in Dhar District
Accident – A tragic road accident in western Madhya Pradesh claimed the lives of at least 12 people, including women and children, while leaving more than 20 others injured after a pick-up vehicle overturned late Wednesday evening in Dhar district.

Incident Reported Near Tirla Area
The accident occurred around 9 pm near Chikliya Fata village along the Indore-Ahmedabad National Highway, which falls under the jurisdiction of Tirla police station. According to initial reports, the vehicle was carrying approximately 35 individuals, mostly daily wage labourers and their family members, when the incident took place.
Tyre Burst Triggered Chain of Events
Preliminary findings suggest that a sudden tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. An eyewitness stated that after the tyre failure, the vehicle veered across the road divider, collided with an oncoming SUV, and eventually overturned. The impact of the crash resulted in severe casualties on the spot.
Casualties Include Women and Children
Medical officials at Dhar district hospital confirmed that at least 12 individuals lost their lives in the accident. Among the deceased were six women and three children. Authorities noted that the identification of several victims was still underway at the time of reporting.
In addition to the fatalities, around 23 people sustained injuries, with at least 10 reported to be in critical condition. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for immediate treatment, where medical teams continue to monitor their condition closely.
Administration Responds to the Tragedy
Senior police officials reached the accident site shortly after receiving information. Indore Rural Range Inspector General Anurag confirmed the death toll and stated that all injured individuals had been admitted to hospitals for treatment.
Local authorities initiated rescue and relief operations promptly, with assistance from police personnel and local residents. Efforts were also made to clear the highway to restore traffic movement, which was briefly disrupted due to the accident.
Financial Assistance Announced
In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He announced financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of those who lost their lives. Additionally, Rs 50,000 was घोषित for each injured individual.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also conveyed his grief and announced separate compensation measures. The state government declared Rs 4 lakh for each bereaved family, Rs 1 lakh for those critically injured, and Rs 50,000 for others who suffered injuries.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about road safety, especially involving overcrowded transport vehicles often used by labourers. Authorities are expected to review safety measures and investigate whether the vehicle was carrying passengers beyond its permitted capacity.
