Infrastructure – Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the second day of his visit to Varanasi with a roadshow on Wednesday, attracting significant public participation across the city. According to Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, thousands of residents and supporters lined the streets to welcome him as his convoy moved through key locations.

Large Public Turnout Along Roadshow Route
The roadshow commenced from Banaras Locomotive Works and covered several prominent areas, including Lahartara, Kachahri, Ambedkar Chauraha, Chaukaghat, Teliyabag, Lahurabir, and Maidagin. The procession is set to conclude at the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, where the Prime Minister is scheduled to offer prayers.
Party representatives stated that people gathered in large numbers along the entire route, creating a festive atmosphere. Supporters greeted the Prime Minister with traditional chants and gestures, while he acknowledged them by waving and folding his hands.
Organized Welcome at Multiple Points
BJP media coordinator Arvind Mishra said that numerous reception points had been arranged across the approximately 14-kilometre stretch. At these locations, residents and party workers welcomed the Prime Minister with flower petals, drum performances, and ceremonial conch sounds.
Party officials described the event as one of the largest public roadshows in Varanasi in recent years. Visuals from the route showed dense crowds on both sides of the roads, reflecting strong local engagement.
Ganga Expressway Inauguration Scheduled
Later in the day, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway, a major infrastructure project spanning around 594 kilometres. The expressway will connect Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the eastern region, significantly enhancing travel efficiency across the state.
Officials indicated that the high-speed corridor is expected to improve logistics, facilitate industrial growth, and strengthen agricultural supply chains. It is also seen as a step toward balanced regional development.
State Leadership Highlights Project Importance
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the significance of the expressway, describing it as a crucial link that will benefit farmers, businesses, and young professionals. In his remarks, he highlighted the project as a milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s development efforts.
Union Minister and state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary also welcomed the initiative, noting that it is among the longest expressways in the country and a major addition to the state’s infrastructure network.
Key Features and Strategic Benefits
According to official information, the Prime Minister is expected to reach Hardoi around mid-morning for the inauguration ceremony. During the visit, he will also review an exhibition organized by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, plant saplings, and address a public gathering.
The expressway passes through 12 districts, including Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh. Once operational, it is expected to reduce travel time and provide safer and faster transportation.
Built under a public-private partnership model, the six-lane corridor is designed for speeds of up to 120 km per hour, with provisions for future expansion to eight lanes.
Advanced Infrastructure and Economic Potential
One of the notable features of the expressway is a 3.2-kilometre airstrip near Shahjahanpur, designed to allow emergency landings by Air Force aircraft. The route will also include modern traffic management systems, CCTV monitoring, emergency call facilities, ambulances, and regular patrol services.
In addition, integrated manufacturing and logistics clusters are planned along the corridor. These facilities will include warehouses, cold storage infrastructure, and food processing units aimed at boosting investment and generating employment opportunities.
The expressway will connect with other major corridors such as the Purvanchal, Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, and Gorakhpur Link expressways, forming a comprehensive transport network across Uttar Pradesh.
Officials believe the project will play a key role in supporting economic growth and advancing the state’s ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
