Fatal Altercation Inside Family Home

According to police officials, the accused, identified as Christy, allegedly attacked his 53-year-old mother, Mattathilparambil Geethamma, during an argument that escalated late in the evening. The incident reportedly took place between 8 pm and 9 pm inside the bedroom of their house. Investigators said the victim sustained fatal injuries after being stabbed in the neck with a knife.

Geethamma, a resident of Thanikunnu, was known locally for her involvement in public activities and was a district committee member of the Mahila Morcha. Authorities believe the altercation may have been triggered by Christy’s anger over certain remarks circulating in the locality about his mother.

Accused Surrenders, Case Registered

Following the incident, Christy presented himself at the Kelakam police station and surrendered. Police have registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to murder.

Inspector Ithihas Thaha of Kelakam Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway. Officials are examining the circumstances leading to the argument and gathering evidence to establish the sequence of events. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as part of the legal process.

Separate Case Draws Court Attention

In a different but significant legal development, the Additional District Court-IV in Thalassery is expected to deliver its decision on April 25 regarding anticipatory bail applications filed by two doctors in connection with the death of a first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery student.

The accused, identified as MK Ram and KT Sangeeta Nambiar, have been booked under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Their bail pleas have been contested by the prosecution, which argued that the seriousness of the charges makes them ineligible for anticipatory bail.

CCTV Evidence and Prosecution Claims

During the hearing, the prosecution presented a sequence of events supported by CCTV footage collected from the college premises. According to the prosecution, the footage contradicts claims made by one of the accused, Dr. Ram, who had stated he was not present on campus at the time of the incident.

Officials told the court that the visuals show Dr. Ram in a nearby staff room while the student, Nithin Raj, was being questioned in the principal’s chamber regarding a loan application issue. The footage also reportedly shows him moving in and out of the area and interacting with colleagues connected to the matter.

Allegations of Harassment Surface

The prosecution further relied on statements from students who alleged that the accused had used derogatory language toward Nithin Raj. It argued that the student faced humiliation and sustained pressure, which may have contributed to his death.

The student’s family has raised serious concerns, claiming that the incident was not a simple case of suicide but involved deliberate actions. They have held the college authorities accountable and demanded a thorough investigation.

Court Awaits Final Decision

Legal representatives from both sides presented their arguments before the court. Public Prosecutor K Ajith Kumar opposed the bail pleas, while defense counsel argued for relief for the accused.

The court is expected to weigh the evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements, before delivering its decision. The outcome is likely to have significant implications for the ongoing investigation and the parties involved
