Crime – Uttar Pradesh Constable Arrested for Aiding Cattle Smuggling Network
Crime – A constable serving in the Uttar Pradesh Police has been taken into custody for allegedly assisting cattle smugglers by sharing sensitive operational details, including patrol movements and routes, in Chandauli district near Varanasi.

Arrest Follows Internal Probe
The accused, identified as 32-year-old Satyendra Yadav, was posted in Chandauli and was already under suspension when he was arrested. According to officials, he was detained from his native district, Ambedkar Nagar, after evidence linked him to an organized smuggling network.
Superintendent of Police Akash Patel confirmed the arrest, stating that the action followed credible findings during an ongoing investigation. Authorities suspect that Yadav had been actively collaborating with smugglers over a period of time.
Financial Links and Communication Evidence
Investigators revealed that Yadav allegedly received payments from smugglers through both digital transactions and cash. These payments were reportedly made in exchange for providing real-time updates about police activities, allowing smugglers to evade law enforcement.
The breakthrough in the case came after the recent arrest of a local individual, Shyam Babu, who was caught in connection with cattle smuggling operations. During interrogation and forensic examination of his mobile phone, police uncovered frequent communication between Babu and Yadav.
Digital evidence, including WhatsApp chats and call records, played a key role in establishing the link. Officials noted that the conversations suggested a pattern of coordinated activity between the two.
Role in Facilitating Smuggling Operations
Further questioning of Shyam Babu brought to light the extent of Yadav’s involvement. Police sources indicated that the constable not only shared information about patrol timings and locations but also advised smugglers on safer routes to transport cattle across district borders.
This level of insider assistance is believed to have significantly aided the smuggling network in avoiding detection. Authorities suspect that Yadav may have been connected with multiple individuals involved in similar illegal activities.
Previous Allegations and Legal Action
Officials also confirmed that this was not the first time Yadav had faced allegations related to misconduct. He had previously been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly helping cattle smugglers.
Following his arrest, further legal proceedings are underway, and investigators are examining whether more individuals within or outside the police force were involved in the network.
Rising Cases of Cattle Smuggling in Chandauli
Police data highlights a concerning rise in cattle smuggling cases in the region. Since January 1 this year, authorities in Chandauli have registered 46 cases involving 127 accused individuals. During this period, 345 cattle have been rescued, and 55 vehicles used in smuggling operations have been seized.
The figures from the previous year further underline the scale of the issue. In 2025, a total of 162 cases were recorded, with 410 individuals named as accused. Police recovered 1,297 cattle, along with 90 kilograms of beef, and confiscated 178 vehicles linked to illegal transportation.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials have stated that the investigation is still in progress, with efforts focused on identifying other possible links in the smuggling network. Authorities are also reviewing internal protocols to prevent misuse of sensitive information by personnel.
The case has raised concerns about internal accountability and the need for stricter monitoring within law enforcement agencies to ensure integrity in operations.
