Satheesan Casts Vote, Appeals for Public Participation

Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan cast his vote early in the day in the Paravur constituency, located in Ernakulam district. Accompanied by his family, he visited a polling booth at Kesari Government Arts and Science College. After voting, he made a public appeal encouraging citizens across the state to participate in the electoral process.

He stressed that voting is a fundamental democratic right and urged people not to remain indifferent. According to him, every vote contributes to strengthening democracy, and active participation is essential for ensuring a fair mandate.

Confidence in UDF’s Electoral Prospects

Following his visit to the polling station, Satheesan expressed strong confidence in the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). He stated that internal assessments and ground-level feedback indicated a clear advantage for the alliance.

He reiterated that the UDF was likely to secure a decisive mandate, projecting that the coalition could cross the 100-seat mark in the 140-member Assembly. His optimism, he said, was based on extensive interactions with voters during multiple tours across the state in recent months.

Voter Turnout Seen as Key Indicator

Satheesan also pointed to rising voter turnout as a significant factor that could influence the outcome in favour of the opposition alliance. Referring to survey trends, he noted that higher participation levels often align with improved prospects for the UDF.

He added that his observations from extensive campaigning suggested a positive shift in public sentiment. According to him, the mood on the ground reflected a desire for change, which he believes could translate into electoral gains for his party.

Politically Aware Electorate in Kerala

Highlighting the nature of the electorate, Satheesan described voters in Kerala as highly aware and politically engaged. He remarked that people in the state closely follow current affairs, including national and international developments, and actively discuss political issues.

This awareness, he said, plays a crucial role in shaping informed voting decisions. He expressed confidence that such an electorate would carefully evaluate all aspects before casting their votes.

Concerns Over Postal Ballot Issues

Despite the overall smooth conduct of polling, Satheesan raised concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the postal ballot system. He claimed that several individuals assigned election duties were unable to access their postal ballots.

He further stated that some voters reportedly visited facilitation centres multiple times during the designated period but still did not receive their ballots. Satheesan mentioned that he had brought these issues to the attention of both the Election Commission and state election authorities, describing the situation as unprecedented in his political experience.

Key Contest in Paravur Constituency

Satheesan is contesting from the Paravur Assembly seat, where he is aiming for his sixth consecutive victory. The constituency is witnessing a competitive multi-cornered contest, with candidates from different political parties, including the Communist Party of India, challenging him.

Paravur, designated as constituency number 78, remains one of the closely watched seats in the state due to Satheesan’s prominence and his role in the broader election campaign.

Statewide Electoral Battle Intensifies

The Kerala Assembly elections are marked by a triangular contest among the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), the United Democratic Front (UDF), and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Each alliance has mounted an extensive campaign, making the outcome highly anticipated.

Polling is being conducted in a single phase across the state, with counting scheduled for May 4. The results are expected to determine the direction of governance in Kerala for the coming years, with key leaders like Satheesan playing a central role in shaping the political narrative.
