Election – PM Modi Steps Up NDA Campaign With Southern Visit Plan
Election – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing to boost the National Democratic Alliance’s campaign efforts in southern India with a scheduled two-day visit covering Chennai and Puducherry, beginning Friday. The visit comes at a crucial time as both Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry approach their respective assembly elections.

Arrival and Public Rally in Puducherry
According to officials familiar with the itinerary, the Prime Minister is expected to land at Chennai International Airport on Friday afternoon. Shortly after his arrival, he will travel to Puducherry, where he is set to address a large public gathering later in the evening.
The rally is seen as an important effort to gather voter support for candidates representing the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies. With polling in Puducherry scheduled for April 9, the event is expected to play a key role in energizing the alliance’s campaign on the ground.
Security Measures and Arrangements in Chennai
Following the public meeting in Puducherry, the Prime Minister will return to Chennai the same night. In anticipation of his visit, security agencies, along with the Greater Chennai City Police, have implemented detailed arrangements across the city.
Authorities have planned multiple layers of security to manage the high-profile movement. Traffic diversions, restricted zones, and increased surveillance are expected in several parts of Chennai to ensure safety and smooth coordination during the Prime Minister’s engagements.
Strategy Meeting With Party Leaders
On Saturday, the Prime Minister’s schedule includes a focused interaction with around 100 individuals associated with the party. This group is expected to include local leaders, booth-level workers, and key organizational figures.
The meeting, which will take place behind closed doors, is likely to concentrate on refining campaign strategies and strengthening grassroots outreach. With Tamil Nadu heading toward polling on April 23, party leadership is aiming to enhance coordination and improve voter engagement at the local level.
Campaign Activity in Mylapore Constituency
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will participate in an election campaign event in support of the NDA candidate contesting from Mylapore, a constituency known for its political significance in Chennai.
Party insiders have also indicated that a roadshow may be organized as part of the campaign effort. Areas such as T. Nagar are being considered for this event, although final details regarding the route and schedule are yet to be officially announced.
Focus on Strengthening Presence in the South
The visit is being viewed as a strategic move by the BJP leadership to strengthen its position in Tamil Nadu, where it is contesting elections as part of a broader alliance. At the same time, the outreach in Puducherry reflects the party’s intention to reinforce its campaign in the Union Territory ahead of polling.
With election dates approaching, the two-day visit is expected to provide momentum to the NDA’s efforts in the region, combining public outreach with internal coordination.
