PunjabPolitics – Fugitive AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Arrested in Patiala Case
PunjabPolitics –The arrest of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra marks a significant turn in a months-long legal case that had drawn public attention across Punjab. The legislator, who had been evading authorities since September last year, was taken into custody by the Patiala Police on Wednesday.

Arrest After Months of Evasion
Officials confirmed that Pathanmajra, a first-time MLA representing the Sanour constituency, had been on the run for nearly seven months. His arrest brings an end to an extensive search operation carried out by law enforcement agencies in connection with a serious criminal case registered against him in 2025.
Police sources stated that he was apprehended within Patiala district, although specific details of the arrest operation have not been disclosed.
Background of the Case
The case dates back to September 1, 2025, when an FIR was lodged at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala. The charges included rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation. The complaint was filed by a woman from Zirakpur, who alleged that the MLA had deceived her about his marital status.
According to her statement, Pathanmajra claimed he was divorced and entered into a relationship with her. The woman further alleged that he married her in 2021 despite already being legally married. She accused him of ongoing sexual exploitation, issuing threats, and sharing inappropriate material.
Declared Proclaimed Offender
Following repeated failures to appear before authorities during the investigation, Pathanmajra was declared a proclaimed offender. This legal status is assigned to individuals who deliberately avoid court proceedings despite warrants issued against them.
His disappearance shortly after the case was registered added to the complexity of the investigation, prompting police teams to track his movements across multiple locations.
Escape from Police Custody
One of the most controversial moments in the case occurred when a Punjab Police team attempted to arrest him in Haryana’s Karnal district. Pathanmajra was reportedly staying at a relative’s residence in Dabri village at the time.
Police officials claimed that during the operation, his supporters created a disturbance by pelting stones and allegedly firing gunshots, allowing him to escape custody. This incident further intensified the search efforts and raised concerns over law enforcement challenges in executing arrests involving politically influential individuals.
MLA’s Response to Allegations
Pathanmajra has consistently denied the accusations against him. In earlier statements, he rejected claims of violence during the Karnal incident and maintained that he fled because he feared for his life. He alleged that there was a risk of being targeted in a staged encounter, a claim that has not been substantiated by official findings.
Investigation Likely to Continue
With the MLA now in custody, investigators are expected to proceed with further questioning and legal procedures. The case is likely to move forward in court, where evidence and testimonies will be examined in detail.
Authorities have not yet indicated whether additional charges may be considered based on developments during the investigation.
The arrest has once again brought attention to the importance of accountability in public office and the need for due legal process, regardless of political standing.
