Weather – Delhi Sees Cloudy Morning With Light Rainfall Activity

Weather –  Residents of the national capital began their day under overcast skies on Monday, with light rainfall observed in several parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that similar conditions, including possible thunderstorms, are likely to continue through the day.

Delhi cloudy rainfall morning

Morning Conditions and Temperature Overview

As per IMD observations recorded around 7:48 AM on March 23, Delhi experienced mild showers accompanied by cloudy conditions. The temperature stood at 20°C, though it felt slightly warmer at around 24°C due to humidity levels of approximately 65 percent. Winds remained light, blowing from the western direction at a speed of about 2 mph.

The minimum temperature for the day was recorded at 19°C, while the maximum is expected to reach close to 29°C, suggesting a relatively moderate temperature range despite the cloud cover.

Rainfall Forecast Across NCR Region

Weather officials have forecast a generally cloudy sky across the National Capital Region, including Faridabad, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Noida. Light rain, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning, is expected between the morning and afternoon hours.

These intermittent showers are part of a broader weather pattern affecting the region, bringing temporary relief from rising temperatures but also increasing humidity levels.

Variation in Local Weather Readings

Different monitoring stations across Delhi-NCR reported varied conditions during the morning hours. Faridabad recorded a temperature of 21.1°C along with light rainfall and relatively high humidity at 73 percent.

Within Delhi, Safdarjung reported a temperature of 26.0°C, while Palam recorded 25.2°C. Narela, however, stood out with a noticeably higher reading of 31.0°C, indicating localized variations in weather patterns across the city.

Air Quality Remains a Concern

Despite the light rainfall, air quality in Delhi continues to remain in the unhealthy range. Data from monitoring systems showed that the Air Quality Index (AQI) for New Delhi was around 213 at 7:58 AM, placing it in the poor category. The overall city average AQI stood at 163 during the same time period.

Certain areas continue to report severe pollution levels. Anand Vihar, in particular, recorded an AQI of 436, categorized as hazardous. Other regions such as Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Pusa showed readings ranging between 182 and 164, indicating moderate to poor air quality conditions.

Understanding AQI Categories and Health Impact

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI values range from 0 to 500 and are divided into six categories based on health impact. A reading between 0 and 50 is considered good, with minimal health concerns. Levels between 51 and 100 fall under satisfactory, though sensitive groups may experience slight discomfort.

As AQI levels rise beyond 100, health risks increase, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions, children, and the elderly. Prolonged exposure to poor or hazardous air quality can lead to serious health complications.

Outlook for the Coming Days

Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast an improvement in weather conditions. From March 24 onwards, the sky is expected to become partly cloudy, with dry weather likely to prevail for the rest of the week.

This shift may bring more stable atmospheric conditions, although it remains to be seen how it will impact pollution levels in the capital.
