Bodies Discovered Inside Locked Hut

The incident came to light on Thursday afternoon when neighbours noticed that the family’s thatched house remained locked from the inside for several hours. Concerned by the unusual silence, they called out to the occupants but received no response.

When villagers peered through a window, they saw a disturbing scene. The young man was sitting near the bodies of his parents and younger brother, while his five-year-old nephew lay injured on the floor. The child was later found to be alive, though hurt.

Police officials identified the accused as Deepak Dhurve. The deceased were named as Raju, 55, his wife Kamalti Dhurve, 45, and their younger son Dilip, 23. Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred late Wednesday night.

Scene Inside the House Suggested Violent Struggle

Officers from the Betul Kotwali police station reached the village shortly after being alerted. Station in-charge Devkaran said the team first removed the accused from the house before recovering the three bodies, all of which were found soaked in blood.

According to police, the interior of the hut showed clear signs of a violent confrontation. Food grains were scattered across the floor, household items were thrown about, and mobile phones were found broken. Investigators recovered an iron rod and a wooden stick believed to have been used in the attack.

Officials also confirmed that the family’s pet cat had been killed during the incident.

Motive Linked to Distress and Possible Mental Health Concerns

Preliminary inquiries suggest that Deepak Dhurve had been struggling with unemployment and personal distress. Some villagers told police that he had shown signs of mental instability over the past few years. However, authorities stated that they are yet to verify whether he had been formally diagnosed or was undergoing medical treatment.

“We will examine whether there is any documented medical history indicating treatment for mental health issues,” a police officer said.

Relatives of the family described Deepak as an academically bright student who had once topped his school in the Class XII examination. They said he had been preparing for recruitment into the Central Reserve Police Force and was hopeful of securing a government position. However, repeated setbacks in finding stable employment may have affected his mental state, according to family members.

Community in Shock

The incident has left Sawanga village in deep shock. Residents described the family as quiet and hardworking, and many struggled to comprehend how such violence unfolded within a small rural household.

Police have taken the accused into custody and launched a detailed investigation. Statements from neighbours and relatives are being recorded, and forensic examination of the scene is underway.

Authorities have assured that further details will be shared once the investigation progresses. The injured child is receiving medical care and is reported to be out of immediate danger.

The case has once again raised concerns about mental health awareness and the challenges faced by young people dealing with unemployment pressures in rural areas.
