Artificial Intelligence – New Delhi has become the centre of global technology diplomacy as senior leaders from Europe arrived in the Indian capital for the AI Impact Summit 2026.
European Leaders Touch Down in New Delhi
Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Business and Industry Ebba Busch, and the United Kingdom’s Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy reached New Delhi to take part in the five-day summit focused on the future of Artificial Intelligence.
Orpo and Busch arrived early Wednesday, while Lammy landed in the capital late Tuesday evening. Their visits mark a significant moment in India’s expanding engagement with European partners on emerging technologies and digital governance.
Officials said the summit is expected to draw additional heads of state, ministers and senior representatives from across the world over the coming days.
Focus on India–Sweden Partnership
Welcoming Ebba Busch, the Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the depth of cooperation between India and Sweden. In an official message shared on social media, the ministry noted that bilateral ties extend across trade, economic collaboration, science, innovation, climate initiatives and education.
The Swedish delegation’s presence at the summit reflects a shared interest in sustainable growth and responsible technology deployment. Both countries have increasingly worked together on green transition strategies and innovation-led development, areas closely linked to Artificial Intelligence applications.
Finland Emphasises Digital and Sustainability Cooperation
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo was received at the airport by Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Singh. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Orpo’s visit is expected to further strengthen the multifaceted partnership between India and Finland.
Officials indicated that discussions will particularly emphasise digital transformation, AI collaboration, sustainability and education. Finland has been active in global conversations around digital governance and ethical technology standards, making its participation significant for the summit’s agenda.
The visit also underlines growing India–Finland cooperation in research and innovation, with both nations exploring opportunities in advanced technologies and skill development.
India–UK Strategic Dialogue on Responsible AI
UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy’s participation adds another key dimension to the summit. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that his visit would deepen the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a strong emphasis on trusted and inclusive Artificial Intelligence.
Both countries have increasingly aligned on technology-driven economic growth. Officials described AI as a critical driver of innovation, productivity and shared prosperity, themes that are expected to feature prominently in bilateral discussions during the summit.
The India–UK relationship has expanded in recent years across trade, defence, education and technology, and Artificial Intelligence is emerging as a central pillar of that cooperation.
Broad Global Participation at AI Impact Summit
The AI Impact Summit 2026 has drawn participation from more than 110 countries and around 30 international organisations. The event includes representation at the level of heads of state or government from nearly 20 nations, along with approximately 45 ministers.
The gathering aims to examine the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence while aligning with India’s vision of inclusive growth and the broader international principle of technology serving humanity.
Organisers say the discussions will focus on innovation, governance frameworks, sustainability and equitable access to digital tools. Policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and civil society representatives are expected to contribute to the dialogue.
Part of an Ongoing Global AI Dialogue
The New Delhi summit is the fourth in a continuing series of high-level AI meetings. Previous editions were hosted at Bletchley Park in the United Kingdom in 2023, followed by South Korea in 2024 and France in 2025.
Each summit has sought to build consensus on safe and responsible development of Artificial Intelligence. With its scale of participation and diplomatic outreach, the 2026 edition positions India as a key stakeholder in shaping global AI governance.
