Machu Picchu, Peru : A head-on collision between two trains at resulted in one fatality and forty injuries

Machu Picchu, Peru:  a head-on accident between two trains resulted in one fatality and forty injuries. According to the Cusco prosecutor’s office, the dead was the conductor of one of the two trains. First assistance was administered on the spot to the wounded passengers, including some who were international guests.

Two damaged locomotives are seen standing idle next to the tracks in a social media video of wounded passengers. After learning of the situation, rescue crews with ambulances raced to the isolated Andean region.

Around midday, a PeruRail train and an Inca Rail train crashed on the only track that connects Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo, according to rail provider Ferrocarril Transandino. The accident’s cause remained yet unknown.
