Expansion of Railway Lines and Network Strengthening

One of the most notable achievements during the year has been the successful completion of several key rail line projects. The doubling of the Tori to Biratoli rail section, spanning 6.5 kilometers, has enhanced line capacity and reduced congestion. In addition, the Shivpur to Tori third line project, covering 41.5 kilometers, has been completed, allowing smoother movement of both freight and passenger trains.

Several new railway lines are now fully ready for operations, including the Biharsharif to Asthawan, Asthawan to Barbigha, and Barbigha to Sheikhpura sections. These new routes are expected to improve regional connectivity and provide better access to education, healthcare, and markets for local communities. The completion of the Daniyawan to Jat Dumri section, measuring 22 kilometers, has enabled direct train services between Sheikhpura and Jat Dumri, marking a major milestone in network expansion.

Progress on Doubling Projects in Critical Sections

Significant progress has also been made on the Son Nagar to Patratu corridor, a strategically important stretch with high traffic potential. Work on the Richighuta–Bendi–Kumendi and Sigsigi–Untari Road–Muhammadganj sections has been completed, improving operational flexibility.

Additionally, doubling works have been finalized on multiple important sections, including Nawada to Tilaiya, Garhwa Road Phase One, the Sindri Marshalling Yard, and the Hazaribagh to Banadag route. These projects collectively contribute to higher line capacity, reduced delays, and improved reliability of train operations.

Safety Systems and Signalling Modernization

Safety enhancement has remained a core focus throughout the financial year. The Kavach automatic train protection system has been implemented over 77 route kilometers, strengthening safeguards against human error and improving overall operational safety. Alongside this, automatic block signalling has been commissioned across 127 kilometers, enabling better train regulation and higher line utilization.

Infrastructure supporting road and rail integration has also seen progress. The construction of 11 road overbridges and four road underbridges has been completed, helping to reduce level crossing congestion and enhancing safety for both road users and train operations.

Boost to Freight Movement Through Cargo Terminals

Freight infrastructure has received a major boost with the commissioning of five new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals during the year. These terminals, located at Hazaribagh, Singrauli, Khagaria, Chausa, and Shaktinagar, are designed to improve logistics efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and support industries such as mining, power generation, agriculture, and manufacturing. The new terminals are expected to play a vital role in strengthening supply chains and supporting economic development in their respective regions.

Introduction of New Trains and Passenger Convenience

Passenger services have also expanded significantly in 2025–26. A total of 36 new trains have been introduced, including premium and modern services such as Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, and Amrit Bharat Express, along with new express and passenger trains. These additions aim to offer faster, more comfortable, and more reliable travel options for passengers.

Furthermore, the routes of 15 pairs of existing trains have been extended, providing direct connectivity to more destinations and reducing the need for transfers. This expansion has improved travel convenience, saved time for passengers, and supported tourism and business travel across the region.

Overall Impact on Economy and Connectivity

The cumulative impact of these achievements goes beyond railway operations alone. Improved connectivity supports local businesses, creates employment opportunities, and enhances access to essential services. At the national level, increased freight capacity and modernized infrastructure contribute to economic resilience and sustainable growth.

Through consistent progress in infrastructure, safety, freight logistics, and passenger services, East Central Railway has demonstrated a balanced approach to development in the financial year 2025–26, setting a strong foundation for future growth and modernization.
