Gurugram: The opening of the Shankar Chowk pedestrian subway is expected to ease traffic and reduce accidents

Gurugram: The pedestrian tunnel at Shankar Chowk has been finished and made available to the public after over a year and a half of development. In order to provide pedestrians quick respite, the DLF Foundation’s underpass between DLF Phase 3 and Cyber Park has been put into service ahead of its formal opening.

With elevators on both sides of the street, the subway is accessible to everyone, including the elderly and those with disabilities. Additionally, it has a fake ceiling and great lighting, which increase user convenience and safety.

At Shankar Chowk, where there is a lot of traffic on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, officials anticipate that using the tunnel would drastically lower the annual number of accidents recorded. Every day, hundreds of thousands of cars use this route, and traffic congestion has long been a serious worry, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.

Thousands of working professionals were previously compelled to cross the busy road on foot, often putting their lives in danger, since there were several business offices on both sides of the intersection. Pedestrian fatalities occur annually as a result of traffic jams and major accidents caused by the lack of a foot-overbridge or underpass.

Ahead of the official opening, which is anticipated shortly, traffic police and other authorities have lately examined the subway to assess infrastructure and readiness.

According to Satyapal Yadav of ACP Traffic (Highway and Headquarters), “the opening of this subway will not only help reduce road accidents but also ease traffic congestion at Shankar Chowk.” “Pedestrians can now cross the street safely without interfering with traffic.”

At one of Gurugram’s busiest intersections, officials believe the new facility will provide commuters and pedestrians with long-term respite.
