All 230 assembly seats in 55 districts were included in the exercise. The first draft of the electoral roll, which is expected to be published on December 23, will reflect the revision’s conclusion.

In preparation for next elections, the SIR was implemented to update and sanitize the voter list of more over 5.74 crore registered voters. Late Thursday night marked the end of the first phase, which included door-to-door verification and enumeration.

Over 7.28% of the electorate is represented by the 41.80 lakh names that have been designated for deletion. Nearly 45 percent of voters fall into the biggest group, which is made up of 22.5 lakh voters who have permanently moved away from their recorded homes.

With 8.40 lakh names in each category, absentee and dead voters make up a significant part as well. When combined, they make up around 3% of the state’s electorate. Furthermore, it was discovered that more than 2.5 lakh voters, or 0.43 percent, had duplicate registrations, meaning their names appeared at several addresses.

The district with the most suggested deletions was Indore. More than 4.40 lakh of the 28.67 lakh voters would have their names eliminated. With over 4.30 lakh deletions from its more than 21.25 lakh votes, Bhopal trailed closely behind.

With more than 2.50 lakh names designated for removal, Gwalior came in third place, while Jabalpur came in fourth with more than 2.40 lakh voters to be struck off the list. Bhopal will be most affected in percentage terms, as about 20% of its voter names would be removed. Jabalpur will have nearly 12% deletions, while Indore and Gwalior will get almost 15% apiece.

“The EC is moving ahead with the process of deletion, correction, and verification,” said Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ram Pratap Singh Jadaun, outlining the next stages. On December 23, the first draft electoral roll will be made public.

In almost nine lakh instances, discrepancies were discovered.
