PM Modi: “Bharat’s rising stature”: Amit Shah on receiving Ethiopia’s highest honor

PM Modi: The awarding of Ethiopia’s highest honor, the “Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia,” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ethiopian counterpart, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, on Wednesday, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, marks a significant development in India-Ethiopian relations.

Shah said that it represented Bharat’s growing prominence in international diplomacy under his direction and was a moment of pride for every Indian. Ethiopia’s highest honor is PM Modi’s 28th top foreign state award.

“A moment of pride for every Indian,” he said in a post on X. Congratulations to Prime Minister Shri Narendra ModiJi on receiving the “Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia,” Ethiopia’s highest honor. It represents Bharat’s growing prominence in international diplomacy under Modi Ji’s leadership and is the 28th foreign country to recognize his statesmanship. The relationship between Ethiopia and India will continue to be marked by this honor.

According to PM Modi, the accolade is due to the many Indians whose faith, dedication, and hard work have molded and enhanced the two countries’ relationship.

The first head of state or government in history to earn this honor is Prime Minister Modi. The honor was given by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. PM Modi said in his comments that he is very proud of the award.

“I was just presented with the Great Honor Nishan of Ethiopia, the nation’s highest honor. I am very proud to have been honored by one of the world’s oldest and most thriving civilizations. I accept this honor with humility on behalf of all Indians. The Prime Minister said, “This award is for all those many Indians who shaped our partnership.”

“I would also want to use this opportunity to thank my buddy, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. You had kindly and rightly asked me to come to Ethiopia when we met last month at the G20 Summit in South Africa. How could I have declined my brother’s, my friend’s, invitation? I thus made the decision to go to Ethiopia as soon as possible,” he said.

PM Modi began his two-day visit to Ethiopia on Tuesday. At the airport, he was welcomed with open arms.
