Sydney Bondi Beach shooting: The man who grabbed the gun from the Bondi Beach shooter may lose his arms because “only Allah knows what I’ve been through” | VIDEO
Sydney Bondi Beach shooting: In the midst of mayhem and horror at Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach, an unarmed guy shown incredible bravery by overwhelming and disarming one of the assailants. The spectacular event happened at a public Hanukkah celebration on Sunday night that drew up to 1,000 to 2,000 people. It was caught on video and extensively shared on social media.

Around 6:45 p.m. local time, two shooters opened fire on the crowd, killing at least ten people and injuring a number more. More than fifty gunshots were heard over the seashore, according to witnesses, which caused panic as families and kids fled for safety or sheltered within surrounding structures.

Amidst the pandemonium, one of the shooters was accosted by a spectator who was subsequently identified as Ahmed Al Ahmed, 43. In a 15-second viral video, Ahmed can be seen rushing the gunman from behind after first hiding behind parked automobiles. He is shown seizing the shooter by the neck, wrenching the rifle away, pinning him to the ground, and pointing the weapon back at the assailant until the cops show up.
According to witnesses, Ahmed stepped in to stop the shooter from hiding behind a tree, which investigators say saved several lives and stopped more killing.
In the hospital, fighting for their lives
Ahmed was wounded many times, mostly to his left arm, and one bullet was stuck close to his shoulder blade, which medical professionals have not yet removed. Because of the severity of his injuries, he is still in the hospital at St George Hospital in Kogarah and might lose his left arm.
He is much worse than anticipated. After meeting Ahmed, Sam Issa, his immigration attorney, informed local media that he was “riddled with bullets and has lost a lot of blood.” Ahmed has no regrets, Issa added, despite the anguish. “He promised to do it again.”
Ahmed thanked people worldwide for their prayers and support in his first statement from the hospital. He asked supporters to pray for his healing, saying, “Only Allah knows what I’ve been through.” Ahmed has been widely praised for his unselfish deed and has been dubbed the “Bondi Beach Hero.”
Ahmed’s acts were praised as an example of great compassion by New South Wales Premier Chris Minns and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. More than USD 570,000 has been gathered for him and his family via a GoFundMe campaign, with contributions coming in from all over the world, including a sizeable one from US billionaire Bill Ackman.
Ahmed, an Australian citizen who was born in Syria and has two small girls, said he took the action as a token of appreciation to the society that accepted him. He is a guy of humility. Issa said, “He simply did what he felt obligated to do as a human being.”
Authorities are still trying to put together the circumstances leading up to one of Australia’s worst recent assaults as part of the ongoing investigation into the Bondi Beach shooting.
