Madurai Deepam Row: “The awakening of Hindus is sufficient to bring about the desired outcome,” says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

Madurai Deepam Row: The awakening of Hindus in Tamil Nadu “is enough to bring about the desired result” regarding the Thiruparankundram problem, according to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday. He said that as the situation is under judice, escalation may not be necessary.

During this week’s Hindu holiday of Karthigai Deepam in Thiruparankundram, right-wing protestors battled with police, sparking chaos. The light at the hilltop shrine was previously ordered to be lit by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

In response to a right-wing activist’s plea, Justice GR Swaminathan directed state officials to make sure the holy light was lit atop the hill. Government representatives, however, insisted that this went against the long-standing custom of lighting the lamp at the neighboring Deepa Mandapam, a custom that has been followed for a number of years.

At the “100 years of Sangh Journey – New Horizons” event, Bhagwat responded to a question from the crowd by saying, “If the Thiruparankundram issue needs escalation, it will be done.” But it doesn’t have to, in my opinion. The case is currently under judicial review. Let it settle. I believe that Tamil Nadu’s Hindu population’s awakening is sufficient to achieve the intended outcome.

If escalation is required, he said, the state’s Hindu organizations will direct the RSS. Hindu organizations operating in Tamil Nadu will notify us if it is necessary, and we will consider it. Given the strength of Hindus in the state, I believe that this is the only place where this problem can be handled. Bhagwat said, “We won’t have to escalate it.”

The matter must be settled in favor of Hindus, Bhagwat said. However, there is little doubt that the matter must be settled in a way that benefits Hindus. That is unquestionable, and we will take whatever necessary action,” he said.

The impeachment motion against Justice Swaminathan, who directed Subramaniya Swamy temple authorities to light a traditional lamp at a stone pillar near a dargah, atop a hillock in Tamil Nadu, was the subject of a letter sent to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday by more than 100 INDIA bloc MPs.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the opposition parties’ attempt to remove Justice GR Swaminathan from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday, accusing them of engaging in “appeasement” politics.

In his response to the Lok Sabha discussion on electoral reforms, Amit Shah said that no judge has ever been impeached for a ruling in the years since independence.

“In all the years since independence, a judge has never been impeached for rendering a decision. To please their base of support, they brought up the impeachment,” he stated.

The fact that Shiv Sena (UBT) had signed the petition surprised him. According to the Home Minister, lighting a lamp atop a hill is customary.
