Politics – Yogi Adityanath Joins Key RSS Strategy Meeting in Ghaziabad

Politics –  Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday participated in a closed-door coordination meeting organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Ghaziabad. The gathering comes at a time when the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sangh leadership have intensified internal consultations ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Political observers view the meeting as part of the broader preparations being carried out within the party and its ideological ecosystem. With the next state election still some distance away, discussions are believed to be focused on strengthening organisational coordination and refining the party’s political messaging across different sections of society.

Focus on caste balance ahead of 2027 elections

Sources familiar with the discussions indicated that caste dynamics remain a central theme in the BJP’s planning for the upcoming electoral contest. Party leaders are reportedly evaluating strategies to maintain the confidence of their traditional upper-caste support base while also expanding outreach among Dalit communities.

The BJP’s electoral success in Uttar Pradesh over the past three decades has relied heavily on its upper-caste voters, particularly since the political momentum generated by the Ram Temple movement in the early 1990s. However, the party is also aware of the growing importance of building broader social alliances in a politically complex state like Uttar Pradesh.

In recent months, internal feedback has pointed to signs of dissatisfaction among some segments of the party’s core supporters. At the same time, political rivals have stepped up efforts to consolidate marginalised groups. As a result, the BJP leadership is reportedly exploring ways to rebalance its caste equations without weakening its traditional support structure.

Expected organisational changes within state BJP

Party insiders say an organisational reshuffle within the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP is likely to take place before the end of March. The anticipated changes could involve adjustments in leadership roles and responsibilities aimed at improving grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.

Such restructuring is expected to reflect the party’s attempt to maintain equilibrium between its established upper-caste voter base and its outreach to Other Backward Classes and Dalits. The move is also being viewed as a strategic response to the evolving political narrative promoted by the Samajwadi Party.

The Samajwadi Party has recently intensified its PDA narrative, which focuses on uniting Pichhda (backward classes), Dalits and minorities. BJP leaders believe that organisational changes and renewed outreach efforts will be crucial in countering this political messaging.

Political sensitivities surrounding recent controversies

The BJP has also been navigating a series of politically sensitive issues in recent weeks. Controversies linked to the University Grants Commission’s proposed equity regulations and tensions involving religious leaders during the Magh Mela earlier this year have drawn public attention.

In particular, developments involving Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati during the Magh Mela in January generated discussion within political and religious circles. Party leadership is understood to be approaching these matters cautiously, recognising the potential implications for both caste and religious constituencies.

Against this backdrop, coordination meetings between the BJP and the RSS have gained added importance. Such discussions are intended to ensure alignment between organisational strategies and broader social outreach efforts.

RSS outreach emphasises social unity

According to sources, the RSS has been holding similar coordination meetings across its six regional units, or prants, in Uttar Pradesh. Caste relations and social harmony have featured prominently in these discussions.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently attended one such meeting in the Gorakhpur region. These interactions are part of the Sangh’s ongoing engagement with grassroots workers and local leadership across the state.

During visits to different regions including Gorakhpur and Lucknow, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has repeatedly stressed the need to eliminate caste-based discrimination and promote unity within Hindu society.

Political analysts interpret Bhagwat’s remarks in the context of the current political climate, where opposition parties are actively attempting to consolidate various caste groups. His appeal for social cohesion is widely seen as a message aimed at strengthening unity among different communities.

A BJP leader, speaking informally, said that broader unity among various caste groups could have electoral implications. According to him, if Dalits, OBCs and upper-caste communities come together under a shared identity, it could strengthen the party’s prospects in future elections.
