CrimeEncounter – A wanted criminal with a lengthy record of alleged offences was injured during a police operation in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district after an exchange of gunfire during a routine vehicle inspection drive, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police authorities, the incident occurred in the Santpura area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Sikandrabad police station. Officers were conducting a regular vehicle-checking campaign when they spotted a suspicious individual riding a motorcycle. When police attempted to stop and question him, the situation escalated, leading to an exchange of fire between the suspect and the police team.
Suspect Suffers Leg Injury During Exchange of Fire
During the encounter, the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg. Police personnel immediately secured the area and arranged medical assistance. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under police supervision.
Officials stated that the operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to monitor criminal activities and intercept individuals involved in serious offences across the district.
Criminal Background Revealed by Police
The injured suspect has been identified as Vinod, also known as Kalia, a resident of Sudha village in Sikandrabad. Police records indicate that he was wanted in connection with a registered criminal case and had been evading arrest.
Investigators described him as a history-sheeter with several cases registered against him. The allegations against him include robbery, theft, and other criminal offences. Authorities said he has been linked to more than half a dozen serious cases recorded at different times.
Recovery of Weapons and Suspected Stolen Property
Following the encounter, police carried out a search and recovered multiple items from the accused’s possession. Among the seized articles were an illegal .315 bore country-made pistol, two live cartridges, and one spent cartridge case.
Police also recovered a motorcycle believed to have been used by the accused. The vehicle reportedly did not carry a registration number plate. In addition, officers seized several items suspected to be linked to criminal activities, including approximately ₹25,000 in cash, a laptop bag, a bedsheet, and a silver coin.
Authorities are examining the recovered materials to determine whether they are connected to any previously reported theft or robbery cases in the region.
Investigation Continues
Circle Officer Deepak Kumar of Sikandrabad confirmed that further investigation is underway. Police are verifying the origin of the recovered items and gathering additional evidence related to the cases registered against the accused.
Officials said the investigation will also focus on identifying any possible associates and determining whether the suspect was involved in other criminal incidents reported in nearby areas.
The encounter forms part of the district police’s ongoing operations aimed at tracking wanted criminals and strengthening law enforcement efforts across Bulandshahr. Authorities have assured that all aspects of the case will be examined in accordance with legal procedures.
