Incident Reported in Nanpara Area

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Nanpara Kotwali police station. Authorities stated that both the victim and the accused sustained significant injuries during the episode. The accused has been identified as Rahees, a resident of Musallampur village in the Ramgaon region.

Police records indicate that Rahees had married Reshma, who lives in Nanpara, around a year ago. However, the relationship reportedly deteriorated over time due to ongoing disputes between the couple.

Background of the Relationship

Officials confirmed that the couple eventually separated, and their divorce was legally finalised in January this year. Since the separation, the woman had been staying with her family at her parental home in Nanpara.

Despite the legal separation, tensions between the two appear to have persisted, ultimately leading to the violent confrontation reported this week.

Altercation Turns Violent

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the accused arrived in Nanpara on Wednesday and encountered his former wife near Laxmanpur Matehi village. The woman was reportedly on her way home when the two came face-to-face.

What began as a verbal argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation. According to police statements, Rahees allegedly rammed his motorcycle into the woman. The situation then took a more severe turn when he is said to have tied her to the vehicle and dragged her along the road.

Locals Intervene and Rescue Victim

Residents in the area responded after hearing the woman’s cries for help. Several locals rushed to the scene and managed to stop the accused, freeing the victim from the motorcycle. Their timely intervention likely prevented further harm.

Angered by the incident, members of the public reportedly confronted and assaulted the accused, leaving him injured as well. Both individuals required medical attention following the incident.

Police Action and Legal Charges

Police personnel arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information and took the accused into custody. Both the victim and the accused were transported to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Circle Officer Pahup Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against Rahees under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include attempt to murder, causing physical harm, criminal intimidation, and insult.

“He has been arrested, and further investigation is underway,” the officer stated, adding that authorities are gathering additional evidence and recording witness statements.

Ongoing Investigation

Officials have indicated that the investigation will examine the sequence of events leading up to the attack, including any prior complaints or threats. Police are also expected to assess the role of eyewitnesses and collect medical reports to support the case.

The incident has raised concerns about post-divorce conflicts and the safety of individuals facing domestic disputes, prompting calls for stronger preventive measures and timely intervention in such cases.
