Squash – Indian Players Shine Bright in JSW Indian Open Quarterfinals
Squash – India delivered a commanding performance in the quarterfinal stage of the JSW Indian Open, with several home players advancing to the semifinals after impressive wins on Friday. The day saw strong results across both the men’s and women’s categories, reinforcing India’s growing strength in international squash.

Strong Showing in Men’s Quarterfinals
In the men’s competition, second seed Abhay Singh and fourth seed Veer Chotrani secured their places in the semifinals with convincing victories. Both players displayed control and consistency against their respective opponents.
Abhay Singh overcame Egypt’s Yassin Shohdy in four games, winning 3-1 (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7). Singh started confidently, taking the first game with steady play. Although Shohdy responded by leveling the match in the second game, Singh quickly regained momentum. His aggressive shot-making and effective movement across the court helped him dominate the final two games and seal the match.
Veer Chotrani, meanwhile, registered a straight-games win against Egypt’s Mohamed Sharaf, finishing 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-2). Despite the scoreline, the opening games were competitive, with Sharaf pushing hard early on. Chotrani managed to edge ahead in crucial moments, particularly in the first game where he recovered from a deficit. He carried that rhythm forward and closed the match comfortably in the third game.
Malaysian Opponents Await in Semifinals
The upcoming semifinals will see both Indian players face Malaysian challengers. Abhay Singh is set to take on Ameeshenraj Chandaran, while Veer Chotrani will compete against Sanjay Jeeva.
Sanjay Jeeva secured his semifinal spot with a dominant 3-0 victory over Egypt’s Ibrahim El Kabbani, winning 11-8, 11-7, 11-8. Chandaran also progressed after defeating fellow Malaysian Duncan Lee in their quarterfinal encounter.
Indian Presence Strong in Women’s Draw
The women’s quarterfinals also featured notable performances from Indian players. Top seed Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna both advanced to the semifinals, ensuring a guaranteed Indian finalist in the women’s category.
Anahat Singh delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day, defeating Malaysia’s Sehveetrraa Kumar in straight games 3-0 (11-2, 11-6, 11-4). She controlled the match from the beginning, using a mix of precision and tactical play. Kumar attempted to challenge in the second game, but Anahat maintained composure and dictated the pace throughout.
Tanvi Khanna produced a significant result by defeating fourth seed Ainaa Amani 3-1. She took the opening game 11-6 before Amani responded to level the match. However, Tanvi stayed focused and secured the next two games 11-5 and 11-8, showcasing strong mental resilience under pressure.
Joshna Chinappa Falls Short
The only disappointment for Indian fans came with the exit of experienced player Joshna Chinappa. She lost 1-3 to Egypt’s Nadien El Hammamy in a competitive match. Joshna began well and showed early promise, but struggled to keep up with her opponent’s pace and tactical variation as the match progressed.
El Hammamy capitalized on her momentum in the latter stages, using sharp angles and quick movement to close out the match.
Semifinal Line-Up Set
The women’s semifinals will feature an all-Indian clash between Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna, ensuring at least one Indian player in the final. In the other semifinal, Hana Moataz will face Nadien El Hammamy after winning a closely contested five-game match against Malaysia’s Yasshmita Jadishkumar.
As the tournament heads into its final stages, Indian players remain strong contenders in both categories, raising hopes of a successful finish at the JSW Indian Open.
