Debut Moment at the WACA

Hamilton, who was making her Test debut for Australia, received her traditional Baggy Green cap from senior teammate Beth Mooney shortly before the match began. The young pacer quickly justified her selection by delivering an impressive spell early in the contest.

Bowling with confidence, Hamilton struck in just her third over. A sharply angled delivery moved back off the pitch and slipped through the defence of India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, crashing into the stumps. The breakthrough gave Australia an early advantage and energized the home side during the morning session.

Early Blow for India

Mandhana’s dismissal proved significant as Australia continued to apply pressure on the Indian batting line-up. By the time players broke for tea, India had slipped to 99 for 4, with the Australian bowlers maintaining tight control over the innings.

Speaking to broadcasters during the tea interval, Hamilton described the moment as a dream start to her Test career.

She said playing her first Test match at the historic WACA Ground made the occasion even more special. Taking her first wicket, especially against an experienced batter like Mandhana, was a moment she described as deeply satisfying.

Warm Welcome from Teammates

Hamilton also reflected on the support she received from the Australian team throughout her debut experience. According to her, being handed the Baggy Green cap by Beth Mooney before stepping onto the field was a proud and emotional moment.

She explained that running out onto the field alongside her teammates and representing Australia in the longest format of the game felt unforgettable. The fast bowler added that simply being part of the occasion was something she would cherish for years.

Strategy Against the Indian Batters

Discussing Australia’s approach during the match, Hamilton said the bowling unit was focused on maintaining disciplined lines and lengths to keep the Indian batters under pressure.

She noted that the plan was to consistently challenge the batters and force mistakes rather than searching for extravagant deliveries. According to her, the pressure created by accurate bowling was already leading to opportunities for the fielding side.

Hamilton expressed confidence that if the bowlers continued executing their plans effectively, Australia would be able to capitalize on more chances as the match progressed.

Rising Career in International Cricket

Hamilton’s Test debut comes during a busy phase of international cricket for the young fast bowler. She recently made her One Day International debut earlier in the ongoing multi-format series between Australia and India.

In addition to her international appearances, Hamilton also gained valuable experience earlier this year in the Women’s Premier League, where she represented the Delhi Capitals franchise. Playing in different competitions has helped her adapt quickly to high-pressure environments.

Family Support Behind the Journey

The fast bowler also acknowledged the encouragement she has received from her family throughout her cricket journey. Hamilton mentioned that her family members had travelled from different parts of Australia to watch her play.

She said seeing familiar faces in the stands brought a smile to her face and made the occasion even more meaningful. Their presence, she added, served as a reminder of the support she has enjoyed from her hometown of Bundaberg to Brisbane and now in Perth.

For Hamilton, the debut wicket marked just the beginning of what she hopes will be a long and successful Test career with the Australian team.
